Leif's Homebrew 4E, OOC1

That's very cool, WD. What are the practical differences between a Warlord and, say, a Fighter? I'm just guessing that a Warlord is not personally as good at killing the monsters but instead is better at 'directing' the flow of battle to help his/hercomrades do the actual 'wetwork.' But do Warlord powers work better when they lead from the front line of battle or from the rear?

Depends.
Most Warlords use melee powers, so they should lead from the front. But there are also 'lazy' builds that only handle out actions to other group members and some ranged atack powers.

My warlord is melee, but a bit 'different' as he has more healing emphasis than most, because he is the only leader in a relative big group.

Aside from some pseudo-striker fighter builds and the slayer, the warlord kills as good as them. But he cannot 'defend' (neither marks nor defending auras).

After spending a few hours on the character builder, I think I'm gonna go with a bard. I have a pretty good Eladrin noble bard build that should interact well. I can do healing, and hand out MBA's like candy...and even do a little damage of my own. And since I'm cunning, I'm pretty good at rituals...not sure if Bladesingers get those or not.

Hah! Well, I get it for free, and I can even cast one ritual (bardic ritual that is) per day for free! So that works out well all around.

I may need to reconfigure a bit, since I avoided the Enchant/Disenchant rituals on the notion you might have them...but it's all good. If nothing else they're cheap to buy once we start.

As far as builds, I made a kind of odd duck. A ranged bard who uses a shortbow and the Moonbow Dedicate feat and a mix of ranged weapon powers and implement powers. We'll have to see how it works.

There are also Songbows in the AV2 that automatically count as a bard implement (vanishment and lullaby are affordable at level 8). This way you could use any bow type you want and don't need a feat to make them implements.

You guys obviously know way more about the 4E books than I do. I hope I"m not biting off more than I can chew here. [WD-"Making my mouth too full." :) ]

I think you did great so far.

My main L4W character is just a warlord and my main LEB a bard, so I know the powers and items for them in the heroic tier (not much experience wit paragon or epic).

Thanks for the ego-boost, Dad, but I really haven't done anything yet. Let me correct that now -- Here's a bit of background that you can all use in building your characters:

Our Story So Far

Our Four Eladrin Heroes have been adventuring together for some time now. The details of their actual relationships to each other (familial and otherwise) are left to the players to determine, but that should all be determined before the game begins, please.

Most recently, the Heroes were on the trail of a distubance in the flow of magical energies noticed by several pre-emintent Eladrin Wizards who tipped you off to the situation. The condition was described to you as being a "swirling" of arcane forces, much like water swirls down a drain. Your investigation into the phenomenon brought you into opposition with a Black Dragon named Archangault. (pronounced "Are-Shan-Go.") You soon learned that Archangault was already on the trail of the same drain of magical energy that you were pursuing, but he had already made up his mind that meddling human and Eladrin wizards were the cause of the drain. This regrettable fact brought your investigative paths into conflict and ignited violent opposition between our Eladrin heroes and Archangault. In your most recent encounter with the dragon, the heroes got the drop on Archangault, and the dragon narrowly escaped death as he fled. Archangault's present whereabouts are unknown to you. You have not yet discovered the source of the drain of magical energy, but you suspect that it lies beyond your home, the Feywild, and also beyond the adjacent Prime Material Plane with which you have the greatest familiarity.

As our play begins, the Heroes will have just spent the last few days recovering from their most recent adventure, their battle with Archangault the Black Dragon, and have been healing, re-supplying, and preparing for their next foray. They have gathered at their favorite Wine Fountain in the Feywild to refresh themselves, discuss recent events, and make plans. A good friend of the group, Yrellen, she a wise Sage of the Eladrin and a trusted friend and mentor to our adventuring band of Eladrin, has joined all of you here.

[OOC: I say again that this post is made to assist players in rounding out their characters for the upcoming epic tale. Please note that there has been no In-Character Thread opened yet, and that is no accident.]

["Wine Fountains in the Feywild" may be springs of different vintages that occur naturally in the Feywild, or it may just be what they call taverns there. I don't know and am open to going whatever way is desired by the players on this question and many others.]
