Eldran Hawkshand

Eldran shakes his head as he looks from one magic-user to the other. "I need to get down close to the path, Sozin." With a grimace, he accepts the vial from Ero and quaffs it quickly.

Tracking the P. Worm

[sblock=Helfdan/Eldran]
Eldran expected to taste an unpleasant medicine flavor, but he is struck by the interesting, spicy flavor of the draught and he is just about to comment on it to Ero, when he is overwhelmed by the urge to dive directly into the river. This he does, and at once he feels perfectly at home. He knows that he has but 10 minutes, so he starts to work immediately. Here, under the river's surface, the path worn by the gigantic worm's obscene bulk is readily apparent. Eldran follows it 40 yards upstream, to the north, where it enters a submerged tunnel low in the western wall of the river-bank. Twenty yards of tunnel, and Eldran comes into a subterranean chamber that also extends above the water's surface. It looks to possibly be under a hill or something, because Eldran estimates that the cavern he is in should be open to the surface otherwise. Eldran can see no ready access to the cavern from the surface, but he can't stay and investigate if he is to return before the spell lapses. He heads back with all possible speed, and it is with bursting lungs that he breaks the surface of the river beside his companions.[/sblock]

The ranger climbs out of the river, shaking himself like a large dog to get rid of some water. He then sits on a nearby rock and one by one, removes his boots to empty them of water before replacing them, speaking while he works.

"About 40 yards upstream, there is a submerged entrance beneath the western bank. The tunnel, also submerged, is about a dozen paces* long, and opens into a submerged cave, which does have some air. I saw no other entrances."

*1 pace = 5 feet or so, for those of you who don't habla :)

Ero watches with great interest as his ally downs the draught and makes his transformation. He waits with baited breath during the swim, watching the surface of the water intently, and breathes an audible sigh at Eldran's return. Almost bouncing on his toes during Eldran's description of the room, he starts talking nearly on top of the Ranger's last syllable. "How was your experience as an Elemental? Did the extract taste good? Was the transformation uncomfortable? And your time in the water . . . any moments of discomfort? Did the transformation hold throughout? That's a new mixture for me . . . fascinating to see it at work!"

"Hey, monkey's arse is considered a delicacy in some places... Er, planes. I'm sure..." Sozin dwindles off as Eldran transforms. "Nice work." he says toward Ero in a moment of genuine respect.

Eldran Hawkshand

The normally laconic ranger cannot help but smile under his mustache. "Your brew did not taste too bad, actually. As for the transformation, what can I say, I felt no different... as if my body had always been made of water. Nice to be able to swim that fast, though!"

Curious, Yurei flies upstream about 40 yards and then westward a dozen paces and begins an aerial recon of the area seeking any likely cave or tunnel entrances or other tell tale signs of a lair below.

Tracking the P. Worm

Yurei does see a line of hills that approaches the river at more-or-less the right spot. The hillside is broken up and about three-quarters covered by some fairly large scree, the boulders being any where from three feet across to fifteen feet across. The condition of the terrain makes aerial reconnaissance of questionable value, what with all the nooks and crannies and big rocks to look under and stuff. There could be a cave entrance there quite easily, but Yurei is probably going to need more than a quick fly-by to either find it or rule out the possibility.

For giggles, give me a Perception check, Yurei and Sozin. Yurei gets the +1 circumstance bonus for his "vulture's-eye-view".

Eldran takes up his horse's reins and leads the others along the river bank to the place closest to the cave entrance.
