Searching the Hillside

The more Hraln looks at the hillside overlooking the intimidating river, the more he feels that something is just not right about it, but can he put his finger on the reason for his misgivngs?

"Let's not be hasty. There may well be an entrance that we did not spot from the air. I suggest we look about just a bit more before going for a swim."

"Something seems strange about yonder hillside," says Hraln while he peers intently, absently stroking his beard at the same time. "Mighty strange." He gazes at the hillside itself, the various rock outcroppings, and the way in which the river flows around it.

OOC: I've never been one to truck much with substituting die rolls for player ingenuity and insight, so you'll please forgive me if I don't immediately respond to Hraln's excellent Perception roll with a detailed desciption of the area and all its secrets. I've already given more than adequate hints, but, for giggles, here's one more: "Think geography." More giggles, here's another: "The river ain't it."

The River and Hillside

The odd thing about it is that even though a stream flowed into the river not a mile upstream, the volume of water in the river seems to be reduced after it flows by this hillside. It's almost as if a portion of the water is disappearing, or going ... somewhere.

Hraln squints a little and moves his hand from scratching his beard to his head. "Maybe one of you bright folks might figure differently, but shouldn't there be more water coming out o' that bend by the hillside yonder?" asks the inquisitor, inquisitively. He points to the section of the river in question.

Dontrius kneels and washes his face in the river. Shaking his head, he moans, "Ugh, that just makes it worse. Wait, what do you mean more water?" Dontrius rubs his eys to clear all the excess water and moves to look at the river to compare the size above and below the bend. "

The River and Hillside

Dontrius carefully studies the situation. He concludes that Hraln speaks the truth. Unless the river suddenly becomes much deeper below the bend, and such does not appear to be the case, there is a substantial volume of 'missing' water.

OOC: Lou, how/why did you get two "I Defended the Walls" Shields?
