Oh thank god! Finally someone with taste! Nobody here understands why I like it. :(

Well, I've never tried SoCo, I don't think. Only drinks I've had so far was some of Jack's Whiskey (Double Shot of some form of Jack's whiskey was my first drink ever), burned like hell.

Then I tried... some form of Captain's Rum... burned like hell, and between the two, I ended up getting really nauseous(overheated). Then I tried Guinness(sp?) and it didn't burn as bad, but it didn't taste very good either...

Then I mixed some vodka into a Dr. pepper, and I didn't taste anything.

In case anyone was wondering, I haven't yet found 'my drink'. And yes, I'm a lightweight. There aren't many drinkers in the family.

Thanks Jemal, glad you're still with us here. Speaking of which, does anyone know if we have lost anybody?

I am a reformed ex-drinker. More power to you resisting! Don't be too anxious to go along with the crowd, ok?

Yes, all whiskey burns, that's its raison d'etre. If you are talking about Captain Morgan's spiced rum, then YUMMMY! I haven't had any of that stuff in years, but it was one of my all-time favorites back in the day, along with just plain old, good, amber Bacardi. And Guiness is great stuff, too, but you almost need to eat it with a spoon. Excellent flavor, though. Another quality dark beer is Augsburger Bock. It's pretty low priced, but it definitely has a premium flavor.

I honestly don't know which specific drinks I'd had, as in every case, friends handed me a glass/shot without letting me see the label.

With the vodka I forget the label, but it was bought for me as a doubleshot, and it was apparently some pretty highgrade stuff, grey goose maybe, or some other high end vodka.

I'm not so much resisting drinking as trying to find why I should bother. I'm not eager to become an alcoholic or anything, and I carefully pace my intake to avoid getting more than a very mild buzz... (Which I only got after trying to dilute Jack Daniel's in rootbeer... which didn't work too well)

Sorry, don't have a clue about any sorts of vodka. Never did care for the stuff, you know. In my opinion, you should be able to drink your liquor straight from the bottle. Not that you would always necessarily do so, but I think that you should be able to do it, if you want. That pretty much rules out all forms of vodka for me. You drink vodka straight? I'd just about as soon drink gasoline, man. I mean, gasoline would feel oily going down and burn like the very devil -- pretty much the same effect as vodka, right? The only thing I know of that's worse than vodka is .....eeeeesssshhhhhhhhhh.... gin.

That's what my one friend who's been helping me find 'my drink' said. He prefers Whiskey's and stuff. I dislike the taste of the stuff, usually because it burns so bad I can't taste it right anyway.

I recommend that you try rum. Nothing too intense, just regular 80 proof Dark/Amber rum, Bacardi, Ron Rico or whatever. But, for a truly exquisite experience, get yourself some Myers's Jamaican Super-Duper-Dark rum!! The stuff that's about the color of pancake syrup. YUMMMM!!!

As a self-proclaimed expert in alcohol, I can tell you that all of them have their good points, and they all have their bad points too.

Rums are great, especially for mixing with fruit juices and such. I prefer dark and spiced rums over the light rums. Leif is correct that Myers is good. Another great (and inexpensive) one I've found is Gosling's Black Seal. It is a tasty treat.

Vodkas are interesting, because they can be made from anything. I've had traditional potato vodkas, I've had grain vodkas, I've even had soy vodka. Each has a slightly different flavor. The other important part of vodka is the filtering. The better filtered a vodka is, the more smooth and flavorless it is, allowing it to mix more easily with just about anything.

I'm not a big whiskey drinker, but I do like my Scotch. There are some truly incredible Scotch whiskies out there.
