Leif's 'The Hall of the Rainbow Mage' [A] (D&D 3.5 OOC)

By the way, I haven't noticed a post from Rathan for awhile. Since he was the whole reason this thing was started, I'm a bit curious. Rathan? You here?

Leif, to help combat go faster, what do you think of the idea of letting PCs act in the order that players post, like I do in X5?

Also, is it possible that Jemal doesn't know that the boards are fast again? Does anyone know how to contact him?

Sure, that works for me, I guess, unless there are objections from other players. Actually, Kinem, this adventure is pretty light on combat overall, so I don't think it's going to be much of a problem anyway. Are you that dissatisfied so far?

Since you ask: anybody know what's happened to several of our missing players, like, oh, say, Rathan?

Crazy Monkey made a post this morning about Jemal. He is having some computer issues, but hopes to be back soon.

No clue where Rathan is though.

I'm not dissatisfied, I just think it would be better for just about any PBP game to use the faster method, especially one with so many players and with players affected by the board slowdown not posting in a long time.

I also think it's better if the DM makes most rolls - such as things like spot checks and saving throws, and initiative if we still use it. In a face to face game, making a die roll gives a player a sense of participation and takes no longer no matter who does it. In a PBP, waiting for the whole roster of players to each visit Invisible Castle and generate a die roll just leads to a lost week with no real playing.

The only problem I have with your system, Kinem, is that it could lead to the same players/characters missing out on a signifcant potion of the action, which will make them more likely to just drop the game, seems to me. That being said, I have no real problem with allowing "First to Post is First to Act" as a general rule, but if some players start to habitually miss out, then I'll likely give those characters a chance to make up for that, periodically.

I admit to be a big fan of DM rolling the dice. I use a combo in my games though...if they PCs roll the dice, that's fine. If they don't, I will just roll for them. I almost always handle initiative and spot/listen checks and such though.
