D&D General lightning-themed environment?

Did you know that volcanic eruptions can generate lightning within their plumes?

Put the wizard in a floating castle hovering within the ash plume above an erupting volcano harnessing its energy for his own schemes, and you've got a whole range of environmental features to play with. You could bring in red and blue dragons competing for dominance of the territory, portals opening to the elemental planes of Fire, Air and Earth, and a risk of causing more harm than good if the wizard's experiment is interrupted in the wrong way.

to mix up where I want to put a big evil wizard doing big evil things I was thinking about a lighting-themed environment as fire or ice has been done to death.
Does anyone know what a lighting environment would look like save a modern power plant, as I am struggling to develop one? other damage themed options are also appreciated
Look up Catatumbo lightning. It is a lake and area in Venezuela that because of the mountain chain's proximity and orientation to the Equitorial current, it has powerful lighting storms approximately 265 days out of the year.

At baseline it's tropical. There is a semi-permanent violent lightning storm 60% of the year. The constant storm moves from over the lake to the far side from the mountains. Hot wet air comes in from the Equitorial current and collides from dry cold air from the Andes.

I think, in the summer when the sun is in the Southern Hemisphere, the air from the Andes is less cold, so there are some sunny days. Then its either sunny or mild showers. Interestingly, for all of the violence of the storms I never hear of tornadoes.

A forest during a major lightning storm is an exciting place to be, with winds thrashing through the bowers, lightning dancing amongst the branches, discharges to ground, snapping branches and exploding tree trunks creating a range of hazards.

Then there is the blasted cliffs overlooking the storm tossed sea, where waves crash against the stones, driving rains lash the stony ground and lighting strikes the ground. Great place to use a Storm Hag too

The Mad Scientist Tower, with its giant lightning towers, eldritch coils and weird energized cauldrons bubbling over with something glowing and alive!
