What glass said about the pronunciation of "drow" in FR. My best friend and I assume that "drow as in cow" came from a human mispronunciation, as "drow as in tow" sounds more elven.glass said:Lolth (and Drow as in cow) in greyhawk, Lloth (and Drow as in go) in the Realms.

Anything with a double L in Texas is likely mexican/spanish and would be pronounced like a Y.isoChron said:Isn't there a Llano estacado in Texas ? Doesn't sound that welsh to me![]()
Watch out! There are Llamas! - The Alpaca of DoomHypersmurf said:Yeah, careful with that 'only the Welsh', or the Lladró people might set their Attack Llamas on you!

A double ll like that makes it sound welsh to me!Cthulhudrew said:I think Lloth sounds more elven.
John Cooper said:I had heard it wasn't a pronunciation error, but rather the fact that for whatever reason, R. A. Salvatore wasn't allowed to use the name "Lolth" in his books, so he came up with a neat solution to bypass the limitation and still make it recognizable to the fans.
Thia Halmades said:And I pronounce Drow, 'dray.' Nyah nyah.
Still, is it truly that big of a deal?seankreynolds said:Not quite. RAS used Lloth in his Icewind Dale books and nobody caught the typo. Since then the books have pointed out, "Oh, Drizzt says Lloth, that must be the Menzo-variant of the name Lolth."
It's one of those "% liar" typos that continued for so long that people now think they're _supposed_ to be that way.
Henry said:Besides, Venger pronounced it "Lolth, Demon Queen of Spiders," and that's good enough for me.![]()

DM: You find yourselves in front of the demon queen of spiders herself.Yalius said:Hmmm. Alternate pronunciations make me think I might have to switch to Lloth. In woleaian, my wife's native language, a "ll" is pronounced as a short "r" with a weak glottal stop at the end, and the "th" at the end is pronounced as "t" with another glottal stop. So "Lloth" would be pronounced "R.aat.", with a very short "r" sound at the beginning. I kind of like that.
