The word wouldn't be DHARMA, but DHOPWP, for 4-8-15-16-23-42. If you want to translate the single digits, then no numbers past 9/letters past I will appear (hence, no R nor M).

I'm wondering if that mysterious disease is even around anymore... the people have been on the island for 44 days, and noone is sick... maybe the germs died out...

I think poor Desmond has been in a nuclear bomb shelter for a long time (but somehow getting new stuff). I think the island was, at some time, used as a nuclear test site, and that Des believes that The USA/Russia started WW III, and that anyone outside would either be sick from radiation poisoning, or survivors from another such shelter...
