Kate's in the jungle, climbing a tree and gathering some fruit. When she climbs down, she hears something... repeatedly. So she picks up a rock, and beans Sawyer in the leg with it. They talk, and she asks him if he heard "that". He then follows her to a waterfall and pool. He strips down to his shorts and dives in, taunting her to come join him. She does. They swim.

While swimming underwater, they encounter a body. Sawyer takes the wallet. Kate tells him that he's disgusting, then asks him to help her get the case the corpse is carrying. Sayer says "And you say I'm disgusting?", to which she replies "It's mine!" Anyway, they go back down, and he gets it.

Back ashore, he tells her that he doesn't suppose that she has the key on her. She doesn't, so he tries to get her to tell him what's in it. No dice, so he won't give her the case. She pretends not to want it, and tells him to keep it.

Later, we see him on the beach, trying to pick the lock... Michael (I think) comes by and recognizes the make of the lock, and says he can't pick it. Someone else with him (Hurley?) asks "Pick what?", is told the make, and laughs. Michael (?) then tells Sawyer that he'll need some high velocity to open it, it's physics, man...

Cut to Sawyer in the jungle, beating the case against a rock... repeatedly. Then he looks up at a tall tree... Cut to Sawyer in the tall tree, laughing something about high velocity physics, and tossing the case out... Smack! No dice...

Enter Kate. "Don't even think about it!" Sawyer yells. She scoops it up, and runs off into the jungle. Sawyer gives much chase. He catches her, they wrestle, he gets it back, she tries repeatedly to regain it. He plays keep-away, all the while telling her that he will give her what's in the case if she'll just tell him what it is. She glares, then turns and walks away, silently.

She goes to Jack, and tells him that Sawyer has this case. He's like "Yeah? So?", and asks what's in it. She tells him that the Marshall checked it because it had four guns and a couple of boxes of ammo in it, and that it's just a matter of time before Sawyer gets it open. He asks if that's all, and she says yes. He asks why she's telling him, and she replies that the Marshall kept the key in his wallet, and she needs his help to exhume him... He then tells her that he'll only help if they open the case together, and she agrees...

Jack goes to Sawyer, and demands the case. As always, Sawyer says no. Jack threatens to cut off the antibiotics he's been treating Sawyer's knife wound with, and what will happen, and in a few days, how Sawyer will be begging him to take the case... Sawyer tells him that he figured Kate would get Jack to do her dirty work, and that whatever she told him to get him to do this was a lie, but he gives up the case.

Jack takes it and goes and finds Kate on the beach, and together they go dig up the Marshall, and Kate gets his wallet. She drops it, Jack picks it up and looks in it... No key!

Jack compliments Kate on her misdirection, then grabs her arm and opens her hand, revealing the key! Now throughout, we see flashbacks of Kate before the crash, pretending to be an innocent in a bank when robbers come in. One of the men says he's going for one of the robbers, and gets away his gun. It lands near Kate, she gets it, then yells that she doesn't know how to use it (despite the man yelling instructions to take off the safety, etc). The man is subdued, one of the robbers comes over and takes the gun, and forces her into an office.

There, we learn that she is one of them, and acting. The robber compliments her, then hits her to make it look real, and forces her back out. He then threatens to shoot her if the bank manager doesn't open the vault. He does.

Inside, the robber threatens to kill him, and reveals that Kate planned the whole thing. She reminds the robber that no one was supposed to get hurt. Since he isn't following the plan, she shoots both of the robbers, wounding them, and tells the manager to give her the key to open box # so-and-so. He tells her that she needs TWO keys for that, but she cuts him off by holding up the other one. He asks her why she would do all this if she has the key, and she replies that her name isn't on the list of people with access to the box. The robbers then complain about being used to get to this box!

So she takes the keys and opens the box... All that's in it is a large envelope...

Cut to the present, and Jack opening the case with the Marshall's key... He finds some guns, sure enough, and some boxes of ammo. He pulls out a few other mundane supplies. Finally, he finds the envelope, with something written on it (I couldn't read it). He hands it to her, asking if that's what she was after.

Inside is a small toy airplane. He demands answers. She cries. All we get is that this is the man's that she killed.

As far as I can recall, that was pretty much it, on that thread... Apparently, Jack still has the case, key, guns, and ammo. Kate has the envelope and reminder of the man she killed.

Also in this episode, Sayid recruits Shannon to help translate the crazy woman's notes, which involve a whole lotta math, along with some scribblings in French. While they work together, we learn a little bit about her time in France, but no flashbacks. At the very end of the show, she finally recalls where she heard some of these phrases before... The guy she was staying with, in France, had a kid, who watched this film, and the words are from the theme song. The show ends with her singing it.

While she sang it in French, it was "Somewhere, Beyonf the Sea". No one seems to have recognized it.

Also in this Episode, Charlie is bumming out because of Claire's being taken. Unusual wave action is washing away everything on the shore, and everyone else is running about, trying to save their stuff from the waves. Charlie just sits... Rose comes over and says good morning... and Charlie just sits...

Rose tells him that he has no excuse from being rude. His response amounts to "Huh?" She eventually makes him get up and help her carry stuff to another camp site, somewhere else on the beach. While they're working and sitting together, she tells him that Claire's being taken wasn't his fault. Bernard (her husband) also comes up, again, and she once more repeats that she'll see him again. Charlie asks why she's so sure. She says that there's a fine line between faith and... despair? (I forget), and that things are much nicer on her side.

Previously, she had told Charlie that he needed to learn to ask for help. Now, he leans over on her shoulder, and says "Help me!" She replies that she isn't the one who can, and starts praying...

Cut to Shannon rejoining Sayid, in their new camp somewhere else on the beach, with the story of the kid and the song containing the phrases which she had been trying to translate... The show ends with glimpses of the castaways, illuminated by torchlight, as she sings "La Mer...".

dc3 cargo plane. Which is more likely a small gift to/from her father which due her being a bad girl cause her father to die of broken heart/heart attack etc.
A nice slow show to bring us back into the show after the holiday break. Sawyer needs to get a clue if case did not open from 40K feet a drop from 40 aint going to do it.
Q is this swimming hole going to be use again? And is anyone going to fish out the bodies?

A. Arbirter of WOrms mentioned the empty casket. I think Jack left the body behind and just shipped an empty home just to get home and finished with the mess.

Shannon is definately singing Beyond The Sea. The movie her boyfriend's kid was watching was Finding Nemo.

Also, Boone and Locke haven't told anyone about their discovery. When Shannon asks Boone why he's been leaving with Locke before sunup and coming back after sundown he claims that they are still looking for Claire (this is the scene where Shannon alleges to Boone's sexuality). For some reason Boone & Locke needed the ax but I don't think we ever saw what they did with it.

There was also an exorbitant amount of T&A this episode.

I agree with the OP on that episode being disappointing. I faded near the end as I was impatient to get at least a couple answers from previous episodes. I'm not an impatient person at all, but I don't like being strung along too much, either. Ultimately, I was more pleased with the "next episode" feature since it looks to be a bit more forthcoming.

I raised my eyebrows at the little model plane in the safety deposit box. A violent robbery (and all that hullabaloo on the island) for that? Uhm... there better be a real good explanation coming.

Does the song Beyond the Sea predate Finding Nemo, or was it originally written for the movie? If it is original, then I hate to nitpick but I think the crazy woman would have missed the movie, being stranded on the island and all, and would not be familiar with the song.

Of course, there has been so much attention to detail on the show that I am probably wrong, the song has probably been around for years and I am just not familiar with it.
