Lost 1/5/05

How do we know her name is Kate?

Aside from the fact that she told us, and that her name presumably matches the passenger manifest from a few episodes back, there is the fact that she was being escorted as a prisoner by the federal marshal. While Kate is a liar, he would presumably know her real name and have gotten tickets accordingly. IMO, anyway.

I don't remember the envelope in the safe deoposit box having any writing on it. The envelope that Jack handed Kate said Personal Affects on it. I will have to rewatch it to see if the safetly deposit box envelope says anything on it.

That was the marshal's case, not Kate's. Presumably he wrote "personal effects" on the envelope when he took her into custody, as a legal proceeding.

This was a slower episode than I had hoped for. I think next week looks to be much better. It looks like Shannon gets grabbed by the monster.
I was hoping she wouldn't be.. I rather like her. Besides being cute as hell, when she isn't being bitchy, she's very vulnerable and appealing...

That doesn't fit the timeline, as I understand it.

1. Somehow an envelope labeled "Personal Effects" ends up in a safe deposit box, for which Kate has the key but isn't on the account. The envelope belongs to someone she (a) love, (b) killed, or (c) both.

2. She participates in a bank robbery to get into the safe deposit box. She may or may not know what is specifically contains.

3. She opens the box and sees right then that it says "Personal Effects" on it, not later.

4. Because of the robbery and shootings, she becomes a wanted woman.

5. The marshall arrests her and puts the envelope in his case.

6. The plane they're on crashes.

As such, the marshall couldn't have written "Personal Effects" on it, that must have been someone else.

Such marking is commonly done by (a) a coroner when someone dies, or (b) a jailor, when someone is jailed.

The envelope in the safe deposit box was a green envelope with no writing on it.
The envelope that Jack removes from the case was a manila envelope with "Personal effects" writen on it.
Inside the manila envelope was the green one, with no writing on it. Said green envelope cantained the toy aircraft.

So, as it was a toy plane do we jump to the conclusion that Kate MAY have had a kid and because of her life sytle died...okay, could be a younger brother!

She clearly stated that it was from the MAN she loved, whom she had killed. So I think we can rule out children or loved ones.

The DC3 seemed to me to be higher quality than just a children's toy. It also looked like it might be made out of pewter, which would indicate a keepsake item or a gift to an adult.

Another point to ponder, I don't think the US spends that much time and effort trying to track down a bank robber in another country, unless she also went on a murder spree. Also many countries are reluctant to extradite people who may be facing capital charges in the US (always a possibility if someone died durring the robbery). Because if you are making someone a most wanted criminal in Australia for a crime commited in the US, you have to be putting a pretty fair amount of effort into the pursuit.

In short, I don't think the robbery is the main reason why she was being hunted. I think someone else was pulling strings to get her/get back at her, probably because of the aformentioned "Man She killed, who she loved". I suspect weathy powerful connected parents most likely, probably objected to son's marrage/attempted marrage to Kate. He died somehow in the conflict, both Kate and X's parents blame her for his death.

At least that's my suspicion.

Hunh, that's weird, my memory must be playing tricks. Fair enough.

I disagree that she clearly stated that. The "man" part, maybe, but not the loved. She said it was from someone she loved, and Jack snorted again, and she yelled that it was someone she killed.

There is no reason to believe it was necessarily both, the latter could have been an admission, the former a lie. I felt that part was left pretty darned unclear, probably intentionally.
