So, how good is this book? I saw a hardcover version at Border's recently for $29.95 (US). I know that it contains spoiler from ROTK so I'm thinking of getting the book AFTER I see the third and final installment.

A fantastic book.

I can't say enough good about it.

The pictures, the little snippets of info, the detailed descriptions of the equipment.... oh, I geeked out over that book on Christmas day.

Which is a big thing for me, because I never geek out over technical guides, no matter how nice. Immensely inspirational in both my newest pro writing, and in my own campaigns.

Its REALLY good. I got it for Christmas, and it's wonderful. The pictures are really nice, and the descriptions are great. BTW, the hardcover editon in great, but there is also a softcover edition if $ is an issue.

I was waiting until after Christmas to buy it (to see if it'd be under the tree). But I'm definitely picking it up. I flipped through it in Borders, and it's a notch above most movie tie-in tech manuals. Very absorbing writing, and the photos are gorgeous.

It's a really good book. Lots of information about things that we didn't see in the movie but should in the EE version. I highly recommend it.

Given it is based on a film and a novel, I found it as useful as many of the Osprey Men-At-Arms books, and in my mind that is high praise. Obvsiously the WETA folks put not only a lot of effort into making the arms & armour, but also a lot of thought into the races and the types of equipment such races would use. I find it staggeringly good.

FWIW I am in agreement. The folks who put it together did an excellent job of creating "fantasy plausability" for the different styles & designs of weapons/armour used by the various cultures.

An excellent read.
