Lowering server strain -- RSS/feeds for threads/subscriptions?

This is more of a question than a request.

Just thinking about pressure on the server and so forth.

Has enworld considered some sort of RSS for specific threads? Some threads (including the playing the game/talking the talk threads and my subscriptions) probably see a lot of "meaningless refreshes".

I.e. you refresh because you want to see if anybody's responded, but they haven't so it's just a waste of resources.

Of course... as soon as you stop somebody responds with a question and then you're a bad DM for ignoring them. (not really, but you feel pretty silly when you're waiting for them, but they're waiting for you but you stopped checking because you were like "I've refreshed 3 times with no updates this is a waste of my time and a strain for the server").

Just wondering. People will go to the thread anyway to post; they're already getting dozens of impressions a day but only one "unique impression" (I see you've got google analytics running -- I assume it's counting unique/non-unique impressions)

Likewise some people follow specific threads....

If your "pushing" the data to some 3rd party (google reader, for example) you only have to serve it once (or a couple of times, I'm sure there are a few google reader wanna-bes out there), but you get it out to potentially hundreds of people.

This isn't the most coherent question. Sorry.
