With you all missing, the guards remained confident they could take some foreign mercenary rebels. They continued their tactics to trying to drag you down so they could attack from a better tactical position of standing over you. Charity and Aishe managed to evade and resist all such attempts from three of the guards, despite having flanking positions.

The Captain slipped out from between two of you to swing his sword down on the prone cleric, smashing the blade into Yosephus's armor to bruising effect. However the guard with the guisarme only slammed the curved blade of his polearm down onto the snow covered pavement a few inches from his arm.

Winter%20Guard%202_zpsadqgfvsd.png

Meanwhile the shaken guard continued to deal with the Halfling and now his boar, drawing his shortsword to leave his polearm gripped only in the left hand.

“Hey! Wake up!” he yelled at his companion lying in the street. The man was still magically out.

He swung the shortsword at the Halfling to miss again, stepping out from between the little man and his swine.

do I have to roll handle animal every turn now? Or does he keep doing that until I command him to stop? Never had an animal before.
An animal will follow the last command given until it makes sense for it to stop. Once his target dies, he will make sure it is dead but will not attack another without orders. It could defend itself though, or might retreat if attacked. Best to have him defaulted to guard someone so he will automatically attack foes in retaliation with needing to be given orders.

[sblock=OOC]If I wanted Bacon to 5-step then attack is that 0,1, or 2 more handle animal checks?

Does he know the command Flank?

If I command him to do something else but I fail the check, does he keep doing his last command or just stop and do nothing?

Can the pig deliver a coup de grace?

If the pig is mid-action and get's hit with an AoO, does his action stop and lose his turn?

Thanks for all of the answers![/sblock]

Charity, Human Female
As the Captain begins to strike down Yosephus, Charity grows visibly irritated. For a fleeting moment, she seems about to step back from him, but, instead, draws her fencing blade and moves into position opposite Aishe. With little effort to sell the shot, she simply strikes hard and fast, whisking the blade past the side-seams of the Captain's armor and sinking deep into him. As she draws the blooded blade back, she makes her demand clear with a eyes narrowed stare, "Leave 'im... alone."

[sblock=Combat Stuff]No action: 5' step to AG7 to flank with Aishe.

Does he know the command Flank?
No.
Animals can only know 6 Tricks (unless they are special like a druid’s or ranger’s animal companion). Combat Training already includes the following 6 Tricks: Attack, Come, Down, Defend, Guard, and Heel.

Technically when making Handle Animal checks, you should be explicitly stating which Trick you are using.

If I wanted Bacon to 5-step then attack is that 0,1, or 2 more handle animal checks?
Hmmm. 5ft-steps are a tactical maneuver that does imply some intelligence. However, because animals usually have decent Wisdom, I tend to grant them some 5ft steps when appropriate instead of taking a Move Action to move 5ft and draw an AoO. Those are situations where they are still moving straight towards a target and just avoiding an AoO by instinct instead of a tactical decision.

Ordering an animal to 5ft step can be done with 2 Handle Animal Checks. You have to essentially order them to move to a new spot (Come Trick). Since you have to get their attention to come towards you, they lose focus on what they are doing and need to be instructed again to attack.

Trying to get around not having the Flank Trick with only 1 Handle Animal Check just doesn’t feel right.

If I command him to do something else but I fail the check, does he keep doing his last command or just stop and do nothing?
He would continue the last command he was given, at least in this case.

Can the pig deliver a coup de grace?
Technically, I don’t think so since a deliberate action like that implies some intelligence. But, in Pathfinder (as opposed to D&D3.5ed), Coup de Grace is just an automatic critical hit. I would say, “yes” that an animal companion’s attack can be resolved that way if it has a Full Round Action available.

"Nice, m'lady! Keep after 'im!" Aishe strikes twice, snake-like, but the ferocity of Charity's own attack takes her aback and she fails to connect with either blow.

Two Weapon attack, and my first chance at a double sneak attack, and she misses with both (the second only by one). Heartbreaker, but the story of my RPG life it seems.

"Pig! Kill the sleeping one!" Pig doesn't care. "Fine! I'll do it myself!" Francis reaches over, lifts up the guards chin, and runs his sword through his neck. Hot blood melts the snow on the ground, staining the alley a deep maroon. "You're next buddy! Drop your weapons, now." Pig goes to gore the guard, but instead sneezes at him, launching snot all over his boots. "By the failed graces of Cortessa this pig is useless."

"OUCH!" Yosephus yelled. The cleric got ready to defend himself and quickly stood up angrily.

He glanced at the alleyway nearby on the right side and then he took a step to the wall looking at each of the guards.

In standing up, Yosephus was able to dodge two of the blows, but not the third. The guisarme slammed into his armor and maybe cracked a rib.

The guards counter-attacked. The Captain slipped out from between you and slashed across at Charity. She barely blocked with her weapon, but the impact jarred her wrist painfully. "You will pay for this!"

The guards with polearms continued to try tripping you, but you all were becoming wary of such tactics and were able to keep your feet.

Winter%20Guard%202_zpsadqgfvsd.png

In the other street, the panic of the remaining guard evaporated with the death of his comrade. He sidestepped around, but could not puncture the halfling's armor. Even so the poking of the shortsword hurt and was going to leave a bruise. "You will die now, or in prison!"

[section]Francis John, III - Self-Proclaimed Prince of All Halflings

Not only did the sneeze clear out Bacon's sinuses, it cleared his state of mind. The pig quickly shakes his head and kicks his rear legs in the snow, sending powdery fluff everywhere. The pig charges forward, and absolutely gores the guard mid-calf.

After watching Bacon nearly run through the guard, a devilish smile appears as Francis senses a new opportunity. He whispers seemingly to himself, "Get'em Boots!" With the utmost secrecy, a snake slithers out of the halfling's hair and down into the snow. The snake lies in wait.

Francis acrobatically handsprings through the snow, dodging a slash from the guard's sword in the process. The halfling majestically ruffles some snow loose out of his bushy hair. He whips his shortsword back at the guard, but the guard parries the strike away. "Care to continue the dance, or do you give up yet? This is the last time I am asking you to drop your weapons and live."
