Yosephus moved to follow the group all the way out of the city. While the group was chatting, he kept quiet, just listening to their conversation.

The cleric looked around the alley, seeing people looking suspiciously at them. he tried his best to act like nothing had happened. he carefully listened to the shouting and said, "We're almost out of Yarendel. Let's go a little faster. I hear some shouting from the guards."

Yosephus walked faster, almost jogging.

~ Day 19, mid-afternoon: Ashore Yarendel ~

Even if the port city was not happy with their frozen lot in life, they were still either cowed into loyalty to the crown, or just used to being lorded over by dictator monarchs. No matter, most did little to interfere with the adventurers' escape from the guards. The hard packed snow of the streets did not leave an obvious trail to follow. Taking some turns through narrow streets, the escape route was no longer straight and harder for the pursuit to follow.

Before long the foursome (and the wild wild boar) were at end of street that marked the edge of town. There was no gate or guard post to control access, just a low snow covered wall that marked the edge of some property and the road continued straight into the foothills.

The road was packed snow, but was not as hard packed as those inside the city. It made the going slower and left a trail. But using the butt of a polearm or other weapon was sufficient enough to swipe the snow to obscure tracks from being too obvious and potentially require the expertise of a tracker to follow. To further aid the escape, a light snow of heavy large heavy flakes began to float down.

After 10 minutes, visibility was already reduced and it was clear that the footprints behind were going to be covered shortly. The road came to a fork; one branch led to the left and deeper to the mountains. The other to the right would led back more to the coast.

Shivering a bit, Charity pulls out more of her cold weather gear, sliding easily out of a bag that doesn't seem particularly full, yet contains everything she needs. Hefting her pole arm, she trudges towards the mountain road.

Eyes piercing the snow, Charity takes up the lead of the group. "It seem any plans we made before coming are pretty much out the window, but if anyone has a better idea than 'start looking,' now is the time. I pretty much am at a loss until we have something to go on." Every breath condensing into a short lived puff, she adds, "I hope you all brought plenty of supplies. I didn't see this turn of events coming, but this sort of thing is why I bought as much as I could carry while still in Venza."

Yosephus kept on walking, some times looking back to see his footprints. He thought that the footprints would go away easily in the snowy weather.

He followed the group more into the mountains.

"Brr," the cleric said shivering. "I'm going to wear my cold weather gear too." He took his out of his pack and put the cold weather gear.

After Charity was done speaking , Yosephus said, "Maybe we should just keep on going into the mountains. I heard the guards saying that the palace is somewhere in the mountains."

"Yes, that is what Hans had indicated, as well," Charity begins, looking back to the group and urging them on. "I was hoping we could get something a bit more specific to help speed along the search, but we will have to make do with the situation as it is. I have 8 days of trail rations, and Yosephus might be capable of creating divinely inspired additions to our diet, I guess now is the time to ask if that is possible. In any case, for now, upwards." With that, she looks forward again and continues up the path.
