[LPF] Into the Wilds Part 1

The giant lizard wags its tail as Kepli approaches, and hungrily devours a ration each from Kepli and Brog, licking their hands when done as a dog might. She then proceeds to rub against the legs of Kepli, after being freed.

A search of the room reveals a passageway hidden behind a long tapestry hanging from the ceiling from the north. Snorri moves it with little effort, and he sees what looks to be a living chamber just beyond. You still have the option to go back and take the next set of stone stairs to the west. Kepli and Brog notice that as they consider each way the giant lizard loyally and happily follows them, wagging her tail once more every time they look at her.

Snorri stretchs out the wall cover to consider it's origin, turning his nose at the dank emanating from it. Readying a light hammer, he signals the others that he'd found something as he uses the side of his axe to peel open the rotted tapestry from the wall, and peer into the room.[/section]

Caius pulls a roughspun cloth from his belt and wipes the gore from his blade. Replacing the cloth, he retrieves a whetstone and passes it over the curved steel a few times. "I'll have to oil this later," he grumbles to himself. That done, he kneels to say a quick prayer over the pile of slain goblins.

The paladin sets his weapon to the magnetic rings on his back and steps toward Snorri. Nodding, he remarks with interest, "Good find there. What do you make of it?"

Kepli Stormborn



Kepli is surprised to have garnered a bit of attention from her treatment of the lizard. But maybe it is the idea of fighting beside the lizard that has drawn others around. She nods to Brog, respectful of his concern for the lizard. "You've knowledge of the beasts, then. It's good to respect one's fellow creatures."

She looks up at Maenor with a shy smile. "Noble, but ill-treated. I hope with a little care from us that this beast will throw her lot in with ours." Kepli's lips turn from smile to frown as she contemplates the lizard. "It may take a bit to figure out if she has any training or if she's a wild beast. We shouldn't slow down for it, though; the less time the goblins have to prepare for us, the better."

Kepli continues to give the lizard attention, trying to get it to follow her and rewarding it with bits of food when it does as she wants.

Scuttle seems annoyed by the lizard and turns away any time Kepli looks his direction.

Brog seems surprised at the effectiveness of his actions with the lizard, but not disappointed. He feeds the lizard a bit more of his rations as he ponders the group's next move. "Tricky situation. I hate to leave our backs exposed to unsecured living quarters, but I also dislike the idea of possibly getting trapped in them. Individually, goblins may not be much of a threat, but in numbers they can be very dangerous. I think the best course of action is for one or two of us to stay and guard the stairs while the others investigate the living quarters. It has drawbacks, but fewer than any other plan I can think of. I am willing to stay and guard the stairs; I have seen goblin dens before and have little desire to see their personal living space up close and personal if I don't have to."

The decision on which way to go is made for you as Snorri takes a deeper look into the chamber passed the hanging curtain. There he finds a room filled with rotting furniture covered in yellowed parchment and scrolls, while also being stained in layers of burned wax. Strange symbols are painted onto the floor in unsettling patterns, while the room itself smells of decay and smoke. Several candles light up the room and an old, gnarled goblin sitting on a creaking wooden armchair. The robed goblin turns to look at your party, then with shaking, arthritic fingers he takes off a pair of wire glasses and says aloud in heavily accented common, "Ah, so this is how it ends. By steel and lightning then? A good death. A much better death than I would have expected." The giant lizard begins to hiss next to you, only settling down when Brog touches it lightly on the head.
