The Sisters' Grove

Rak’tan continues to struggle against the dark fey creature wearing the dryad’s face that stands between him and Arradon. Autumn is roughly forty feet to his right (east), at the very edge of the grove, where she is contending against two of the atomie fairies. Both of those small, flying, fey have taken severe burns from Autumn’s fire magics. Both atomie blink out of sight as they invoke their invisibility magics.

A cluster of three of the summoned nuglub gremlins, hideous hunch-backed creatures with three glowing blue eyes and oily hair that covers its entire body like a cloak, are twenty feet or so to Rak’tan’s left (west). Levanna and Etan are thirty feet behind Rak’tan and the wizard-woman conjures a dart of acid that flies over Rak’tan’s shoulder and strikes the dark fey.

Zinnelis fires at the creatures from ahead and to Rak’tan’s left (north-west) and the three nuglub shuffle and begin to move towards the elf until one shrieks, ”Altzairu itzuli!” It points at Rak’tan and chatters in its language while moving its clawed hands about.

The other two nuglub chatter in response, then rush towards Rak’tan. Little sparks of lightning jump from finger to finger as they advance on the tiefling.

The dark fey scoops up a longsword from among the fallen elven warriors and turns to attack Arradon. The blade swings around in a slash that leaves Arradon with a light wound.

GM: Round Three: Everyone is up.

The evil dryad is able to evade the burning sphere one last time before it winks out of existence. Autumn gasps when the atomie disappear! She surveys the battlefield. The druid draws one of her three cold-iron arrows. Her mark is spot on as the arrow lodges itself right into the dark fey! Lastly, she calls forth, confidence brimming in her voice after her last shot. "Zinnelis! I might need more of those arrows!"

As the nuglub magic starts to work on Rak'tan, the tiefling feels himself becoming a little warm under his armor.

[sblock=Trogdor]Ah, that save wasn't for the reduce person. Rak'tan will be small until the magics wear off in approx. 60 rounds. That save was for resisting a heat metal spell. Rak'tan's armor will soon become very toasty![/sblock]

Arradon's dagger flashes back and forth across the dark fey like an artist with a bladed brush. His first blow misses the woody flesh, instead slashing into the corpse impaled on the tree. His second blow strikes truer, delivering a fair blow to the foul creature, it's dark blood-sap running in rivulets onto the charred ground.

Seeing her friends struggle against their foes, Levanna moved forward to help. Though if what she knew about fey creatures was true for these as well, her magic may well fail. As she approached, she began her incantations. Spread out as they were, Levanna had to get closer than she was comfortable with before she finished her spell and let its energies loose.

The concentrated attacks on the dark fey leave it roaring and flailing about with limbs and the longsword it picked up previously. It tries to snap off a few of the arrows that sprout from its woody hide but each brush of its limbs against the fletched arrows sends it into further impotent rages. Despite its rages, the creature is sorely hurt and a few well-placed strikes should take it out.

Twisting, mesmerizing lights spray from Levanna's hands and bathe two of the gremlins. The one closest to her stands stunned and wobbles in an unseeing daze.

When the dark fey scooped up the longsword Rak’tan was able to take advantage of the opening and make an attack. Having to duck a flailing limb threw off the tiefling’s attack and the strike missed. Rak’tan was able to recover and the next strike hewed deep into the dark fey’s trunk. When he wrenched his blade free, dark sap flowed freely from the wound. Despite the adrenaline of having made a good attack against the creature, Rak’tan can feel his armor is becoming uncomfortably warm.

The fey creature wildly slashed its longsword at Arradon but Arradon was able to easily sidestep the attack. More surprising, the dark fey opened a splinter-toothed maw in its trunk and snapped at him. Even so, the fey’s lumbering bite was no threat to the quick Arradon.

The dark fey howled commands at the gremlins and the nuglub reluctantly turned their attentions from Rak’tan to Arradon. The nearest stepped a bit closer to Arradon and went into a flurry of biting and scratching. The gremlin’s teeth grazed Arradon’s boot but the leather prevented any damage. Its two claws found gaps in Arradon’s defense, scratching him deeply, and the lightning that sparked between its fingertips coursed over Arradon’s body and caused his heart to stutter before regaining its regular beat. The gremlin pulled at Arradon as it attacked and nearly pulled him from his feet.

The second nuglub scrambled forward and snapped at Arradon with its teeth but they closed only on air.

Autumn feels two sharp, piercing attacks as the atomies attack her with their needle-like rapiers. They both become visible, laugh, and buzz about her head like pesky flies.

Etan rushes forward and stops next to Levanna. He slashes his sword at the nuglub but his small weapon is no match for gremlin toughness.

Rak’tan also had an AoO but I rolled it because I was anxious to get things moving: Raktans AoO: 1D20+7 = [6]+7 = 13 MISS.
Also, cold iron doesn’t do extra damage but it does bypass the DR 5 the creature has to do regular damage (someone not using cold iron has damage reduced by 5 points).

The atomie struck by Autumn's arrow spirals out of control with a 'Zzztt' but it crashes to the ground, dead. Arradon's dagger thrust pierces to heartwood and with a violent convulsion the dark fey teeters then topples over. Its dryad face stares sightlessly at the low, gray sky overhead. Whatever the creature was, it's dead now.

GM: Two active nuglub and one atomie.
Rak'tan, Zinnelis, & Levanna left to go in Round Four.

OOC: Yes! Rak'tan is standing next to the stunned and blinded gremlin. A five foot step would get him next to one of the active gremlins. A single move action would put him next to the last remaining atomie. So, several good targets still.
