M3: Assassin's Knot (Patlin judging)

He will wait until they are alone in the room before asking for the button. He then casts locate object concentrating on another of the same button. If the ship is underway prior to the Jara leaving then he will wait until they are back in Three Rings because of the limited range.

Once the party is alone in the room, Mordik will also attempt to search the murder scene. (26)

Nurlan's no help

"Thanks for those disks, and we will report, as you wish. I don't have anymore questions. Maybe my frieds have some. I'll start to search the room." On that, Rinaldo starts to take a close look at the room.

Nurlan tries to help Rinaldo, but doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the search. (Aid Another 3+2=5.) After the search is done, and our hosts are departed, Nurlan will pull Eanos and Mordik over to speak to them. It's OK if the others listen, but he's most interested in briefing the newcomers. (OOC: I'll wait until the results of the Search before saying what he has to say; just don't fast forward until he's had his chance.)

Eanos follows Rinaldo's lead, attempting to aid Rinaldo in his search of the premises, then heeds Nurlan's request to speak with him.

[OOC: Aid Another: 19. I'm not sure if I should be rolling this or not, but figured it didn't hurt. Feel free to disregard if you decide it should be a secret roll.]

Aid another is generally not a secret roll, but it is within the DM's judgment as to how many people can effectively aid on a given action. At some point, you just get into each other's way.

(By the way, is it OK if I make comments like this? I'm not 100% clear on how active a Judge is supposed to be in a thread. KO has helped me out with this sort of thing from time to time, I think.... Let me know if I'm being pesky.)

Ashnar contributes to the search, though beforehand, he'll try to 'read' the men they've talked to.

 

[Manzanita]

A thorough search of the room is undertaken. Prince Medius Jara, Antagra the wizard, and Vossinger are largely present, although they step out at times, individually. There is no opportunity yet to speak privately as a group.

The searchers determine the late duke was a meticulously neat man. There is very little out of place or out of the ordinary. Rinaldo does come up with two items of note. One is a tuft of wiry, dark brown hair, wedged underneath the chair leg. They have a pungent, dirty smell.

Ranks in Knowledge(nature) would be needed to determine more about them. Does anyone have that?

He also finds a golden string, or twine, under the hammock. Nurlan believes it to be the string of a lute or other instrument, made of some animal intestine. The golden color is unusual.

Prince Medius takes an interest in the search. "There you go Vossinger!" he exclaims excitedly. "Look at them search. They're sure to get their man! Now this hair. Unusual. The duke wasn't known to keep animals. Or play instruments. Perhaps he was killed by a hairy bard!" The prince laughs at his own joke. Vossinger feigns amusement. The wizard, who hasn't said a word, is silent.

Feel free to chime in Patlin. You know the RAW better than I do.

Ignoring the joke, Rinaldo asks seriously "Any sign of strangulation on the body? I know strings, if tough enough, can be use for strangulation, or even cutting a throat if it is sharp enough. On the other hand, the hait can be simply coming from a rat. And I wdon't remember a boat without rats... But for now, we have to consider any lead. Anyone more familiar with animals than me? I would like to confirm which animals leave such trace. If not, I would like ot have a clean pouch to put the hair, so it doesn't lose his smell to fastly... I miss Charlarn on that one, I know he has learn some huter's trick, he could have helped here."

OOC: Knowledges are class skill for Traders PrC... sure I'll take a few in the next levels.

OOC: The hairs are about 2 to 3 inches long.

“We’ll soon arrive at your departure point. We can’t have you disembarking from our flagship in Monemvassia, can we? Not if you are to remain anonymous.” Says Medius. “If you come to Monemvassia, you know places to stay, I think. If you choose to go to Three Rings, you should have some excuse for being there. Traveling bard, trader. Adventurers do sometimes go to Three rings. Prince Phillip collects exotic animals and all sorts of magic components. Dragon teeth, manticore quills, demon blood, rare herbs. And giant bats, owls, apes, snakes whatever. In the jungles south of here, there are such creatures. You could say you’ve come to sell some of those. There's only one Inn in town, so if you split into groups, you would all meet up. There is a theatre in Three Rings. Is there a hairy bard working there, Vossinger?”

“I couldn’t say, sire.”

“Oh well. And one last thing. To collect your full reward you need proof. Don’t just bring me a dead body and say you’ve got the murderer. I’d prefer a confession, or at least some evidence. Murder weapon, testimonials, whatever. Remember to keep me posted. If you need armed assistance, just ask. Here's some front money. We'll pay reasonable expenses. Any last questions before you go?”

OOC: Assume perdiem type expenses are covered: room, board, replacement ammunition etc. Anything unusual or expensive would need to be requested IC.

OOC: 2 to 3 inch... big rats

"Too sad we left such hastly. I left my horse at the Inn, with all my merchant stock." He takes a look at Ashnar and smiles. "How would you like to become a trainer. I'm selling rare animals and you train falcons for hunt of exotic small animals and birds, like snakes or parrots. We could have Eanos as a guard too.

Nurlan, you could be a troubadour travelling from city to city. Tenebrynn could do some illusion during your shows... if I remember Opale, every wizard have learn to do some basic, am I right. And Mordik could be your escort. Two small group would attract less the attention.

Once in two groups, we could investigate two things at a time, and report at the Inn. Once we have a serious lead, we could regroup and do what it has to be done together. Looks fine with you?"
