M3: Assassin's Knot (Patlin judging)

Unable to find a reasonable time to cast his spell and finding the ship underway almost as soon as they begin their investigation, Tenebrynn tries his best to help the others. Each of the clues they present, the hair, the button, and the string all give him targets for his spell later. Making a mental note to alter his spell selection for a more investigatory persuit, Tenebrynn starts planning which spells would make the most sense. When he has a chance he memorizes:

[sblock]0th - Detect Magic, Detect Poison, Daze, Read Magic, Ghost Sound
1st - Comprehend Languages, Silent Image, Unseen Servant, Mage Armor
2nd - Locate Object, Locate Object, Invisibility[/sblock]

"Of course. If we think the killer is a musician, this could give me a chance to meet more potential suspects. Of course, I'm very well armed for a musician. The longspear is theatrical -- I first started using it for its stage presence, when I sing about brave warriors. The mace is a run-of-the-mill self-defence tool. But do you think the crossbow is too suspicious? I never would have carried a weapon of this quality until I started taking jobs hunting goblins and apprehending rogues and murderers."

(OOC: Nurlan has a masterwork heavy crossbow.)

"Let Mordik carry it for you. It'll help him to look more like a mean guard, and as you'll stay together, he'll just have to hand it to you."

"Too sad we left such hastly. I left my horse at the Inn, with all my merchant stock." He takes a look at Ashnar and smiles. "How would you like to become a trainer. I'm selling rare animals and you train falcons for hunt of exotic small animals and birds, like snakes or parrots. We could have Eanos as a guard too.

Nurlan, you could be a troubadour travelling from city to city. Tenebrynn could do some illusion during your shows... if I remember Opale, every wizard have learn to do some basic, am I right. And Mordik could be your escort. Two small group would attract less the attention.

Once in two groups, we could investigate two things at a time, and report at the Inn. Once we have a serious lead, we could regroup and do what it has to be done together. Looks fine with you?"

Eanos raises an eyebrow, then shrugs. "Acting as a guard is perhaps the best option for me," he says. "It's effectively true to my role here. My nature doesn't lend itself to deception, but since a guard is expected to keep his employer's confidences, I can avoid lying by refusing to divulge private information. It sounds like a reasonable way to serve without compromising myself."

Mordik acts like he's holding a crossbow and attempts to look menacing.
Mordik stifles a chuckle to himself, then says:

You guys think I look menacing enough to be a guard?

"Sure. you're a dwarf. Everyone knows dwarves are supposed to be proud warriors." With that line, Nurlan hands his crossbow and half his bolts to Mordik. "If you need to use it, you'll find it shoots well, but unless you've practiced with it as I have, loading it is so slow. If we get into a situation where we're likely to need to fire a few rounds, it's best if I take it back. I'll keep some of the bolts just in case."

Mordik turns the crossbow over in his hands, admiring the workmanship

S'posed to be and bein' is two different things. I guess I am a bit o' a warrior meself, though..I'll hold the crossbow for ye, if things start to get tight, I'll shoot if I have a shot and then toss it your way when I get tha' chance. Anyone asks what I'm doing, I tell 'em I aint being paid to talk and push em your way.

Looks like you're ready to disembark.

The ship slows and docks. It is getting towards evening. Prince Medius escorts you up to deck, where a ramp leads down to the dock. You have arrived at a small military outpost. Several armed soldiers await at the bottom of the platform, as well as a slim, cloaked figure

Prince Medius shakes each party member's hand again as you leave. "Good luck, my friends. The guards here can supply you with horses and tack. The horses are a loan. I do expect them back when you are through with them. Three rings is about a one hour ride south. Monemvassia a three hour ride North."

Feel free to ask final questions, and finalize your plans. It looks like you're splitting into two groups and heading to Three Rings. Correct? Which group rides first. Both planning on heading directly to the inn?

As the party walks down to the dock, the cloak figure walks up. As you pass, you can see she is a pale, scared-looking young woman. She walks up to the ship, and Medius approaches and puts his arm around her shoulder. "Thanks boys." He says to the guards on the dock.

Eanos tries to hide his scowl of concern at the young woman's fear, looking to discern if it's aimed at anyone in particular. He's anxious to be alone with the crew from the Red Dragon to compare notes without Medius or his men looking over their shoulders.

[OOC: Sense Motive on the young woman and / or Medius (since I neglected to do it before) while the party's collecting itself / asking final questions]

Mordik all but ignores the woman's plight, but he does seem to be covered in a nervous sweat. He's never rode before, and tends to be horrible with animals...

Erm, so we'll be riding these...horses, that is...How hard is that then?
[/smallcaps]

Mordik gulps hard and seems to look lightheaded.

OOC:
Orsal[sblock]How many bolts did you give me, and do I have a small quiver to hold them around a leg or what?[/sblock]
