Magic Question

I apologize if this has been dealt with before but I have a question about using spells in combination...

Specifically, I am wondering what other people's opinions of the combination of Hold Person and Levitate? Would a person who is held be considered an inanimate object? Otherwise, a person who is unwilling to be levitated cannot be. That is my read of it at least. Looking for opinions and expertise, as I have little of each:o

unless i'm way off base, you levitate with your mind. even if you are held, you can still think. not really sure what you wanted to know with your question. sure you can cast them both on the same person, but you can't decide to make them levitate with the spell. but they could chose to.

The description says "...one willing creature..." which makes sound like if you still have your mental abilities you can resist being levitated.

I think the effect you are looking for would require either telekinesis or a specially researched levitate other.

A held creature is still conscious and aware of its surroundings; it just can't move. If it doesn't want to be levitated, the spell won't work.

Then how do you explain Rohypnol? ;) Just kidding! :) Seriously though, I've gotta agree with Hong on this one. Since the Levitate spell allows a Will save, there's nothing that forbids a held creature from attempting the save. You might be able to pull it off, but the point is that the creature gets the chance to resist the spell.

How about this combo?

Hold person and Tensers floating disk? The disk appears under the held person and moves them around?

Combine that with Invisibility and voila! You have the mystery of the missing person...if they fail their will save.

1) Levitate only works on _willing_ subjects. In fact, it doesn't even provide a save; an unwilling subject can't be affected, full stop.

2) I'm not sure if you could create a Tenser's floating disc under something. It's immaterial though, since you could just create the disc next to the held creature and bundle it on to the disc.

3) The disc has to remain within 3' of the ground at all times, and disappears if this distance is exceeded. Not a substitute for levitate, sorry.

Levitate doesn't allow a will save. The creature must be willing, so no, I don't think it could be pulled off.
