Master of Masks (prestige class) - How does it alter your appearance?

First Post
I have a player who is interested in playing a Master of Masks from the Complete Scoundrel.

Here is some info about it:

Here is my question: How does MoM alter your appearance?

My player wants the masks to actually make him *look* like the mask he is donning. For example, if he puts on the mask of the assassin, he wants it to change his clothes, etc. so his entire person looks like an assassin. If he puts on the ArchMage mask, he wants it to make him look like a wizard.

I've told him that the way I read it, his character will look the same, except that he is wearing a mask. However, the prestige class description says things like, "Your power lies in your talent at manipulating reality through the secret knowledge of those who have come before," and "you manipulate belief and perception."

So what do you think? Should I allow the donning of a mask to alter his appearance, such that his clothes, equipment, etc. appears to actually change? This seems to be the purview of the Alter Self spell. Maybe I could somehow incorporate Alter Self into these masks? Make them more expensive due to the added benefit?

There's no indication the masks alter your appearance in any way. Thus you'd be your normal self wearing a (silly) mask.

However the class is a bit odd if you play it that way. I'd suggest the mask becomes invisible when wearing it. It should definitely NOT alter your normal appearance in any way, though.

Get a hat of disguise if you want that.

What Jhaelen said. The masks stay visible on your face until you get the invisible mask class ability. In truth, the idea behind the class is a lot better than the class itself.

Yep, that's the way I read the class too. It does seem silly to be walking around wearing a mask like that (or even worse when you later get the ability to wear multiple masks at once).

I guess the Hat of Disguise is the best way to go for something like this.

Thanks.
