Medical Update - T Cell Count

I take it they re-tested to make sure they didn't screw-up? At 10 I am surprised they haven't put you in isolation.

Either way, good luck. Remember, if you need a miracle, they happen, and it has to happen to somebody, so it may as well be you.

Thoughts, best wishes, and prayers. My hope is that you concentrate not so much on "beating the disease" itself - we all get different diseases at one time or another and it's part of life IMO - so much as I hope you concentrate on avoiding/overcoming the crippling fear of the unknown and the definite consciousness of your mortality that goes with it. The psychological nightmare is probably worse than the physical one for you right now.

To recap one of my old .sigs:

"What's the order of happiness?"
"Grandparents die, parents die, children die..."
"THAT'S happiness to you?"
"What order would YOU rather have it in?"

It sucks when those who are young have to face their mortality with more sense of proximity than those who are old. Therefore, it sucks to have you have to go through this. :(

I'm very sorry to hear that, hang in there, and try to keep your spirits up. As long as you can see the beauty of this world I'm sure that it will support you through these dark times.

These days even with a T4-cell count of 0 you would still be able to fight back, and the already good medical treatments are getting better every day.

To be honest I was relieved when I saw your count was 10, I'm not sure why but I saw those 10 as a real asset for you, they are not just T4 lymphocytes, they are a living part of you, they are you.

My thoughts go with you and your fight to regain control. Absorb all the positive that may meet you and don't hesitate to ask if you need help, asking for help is not a weakness, it is the strength of embrasing the world.

I understand you are afraid of all this, it is a huge change to adjust to this new situation, it is a situation that you cannot completely control and it is difficult to understand how it works. Try to focus on the things you can control, and release the fear for what you cannot control.

It is you who decide how you confront this, how you eat, how you think, how you feel, how you love, and how you fight. These choices are within your power, take up those challenges and experience life.

My thoughts and prayers go with you in this time of adjustment and gathering of strength.

Ouch. Don't you grow new cells?:(
Hard to do that with the virus killing them off as soon as they grow. I remember doing a report on AIDS in school not too long ago. Scary stuff. I think I heard something somewhere about a semi-radioactive fluid that can be injected into the bloodstream to weaken the virus, but that weakens you at the same time. Really complicated.

I had a theory that if a patient had a machine hooked up to his heart that killed off all of the cells in the bloodstream before they reached the heart and had a seperate tube doing a continuous blood transfusion to replace the lost/destroyed blood, eventually there would be enough dead AIDS cells floating around that the new T4 cells in the transfused blood would add them to the 'hit list' if you will. Just a theory, but you never know...

Hi Angelsboi,

I'm really sorry to hear that you are going through this experience.

I know you said in your original thread about this that you knew who infected you, but how long ago did this happen?

When I was doing a coming out course in the early 90s, before the cocktail, there was a guy who came to talk to us about AIDS who had been positive at that point for 8 years. Pretty much since it started getting noticed.

He had a T cell count of One. He'd given his T cell a name.

But he lived a very healthy lifestyle, and he said that he felt healthier than he ever had in his life (possibly because his t cells weren't accidently killing good entities).

He also said that through his illness he had made many new friends, had found out much more about himself, what he wanted from life, etc.

He said that he'd been happier since he'd had AIDS than any time in his life before it.

Strange, I know, but he'd re-evaluated what he wanted and needed from life, and focused his energies into those things.

Have hope, be strong and be safe. You have lots of people who love you, including many here in cyber-space. You have your faith, and most importantly you have yourself. You have shown us time and again that you have so much strength and belief in yourself. You have fought hard to be who you are, and to not let others bring you down. This is just another part of the fight.

AIDS is no longer a death sentence. You will get this under control, and then it will become a part of your life, rather than being all of your life which I'm sure it seems at the moment.

*hugs*

Ever since you posted the news that you are HIV positive, you've been in my thoughts. For what it's worth, you're sitting in a little corner of my conciousness, and I'm thinking good thoughts in your direction.

Please believe that you will survive this. Believe it with all your might. Visualize yourself being healthy, and going on with your life, and living to a ripe old age. Keep focusing on that, and you can make it true.

Stuff to look through

The sites found here were selected and annotated by librarians, so I would hope that most of them are credible. I thought aids.org was very well organized. You probably alreadly know a lot about HIV, but I hope some of these will help you make the most informed decisions possible.

arrgh, I'm sorry, I don't know why I can't get the vB code to work.
