As far as I see it a tie isn't a tie.
1d20+6 VS 16 is really 1D20+6 VS 1D20+6. There are variant rules for D&D were you can have an active defense. IE roll a D20 to defend. As such rolling a 10 on the attackers die VS. The average of 10.5 on the die of the defender.
