Midnight: First Impressions of Campaign Book

The game really is fun. I ran a game this past Wednesday and it was dark and fantastic.

Hopefully, the game will become a Wednesday tradition with us gamers with odd schedules.

It is just Tolkien enough to be easy to pitch to gamers quickly and easily but just different enough to be interesting and fresh.

Fun stuff.

What's the future to hold, what books will come out?

I can see two candidates:
- An epic adventure (module in different parts?) since epic adventures are the best way to create the right feel and show what the world is about.
- Sourcebooks describing the previous ages, a book that let's you play before the disaster.

Over time if there will be enough adventures & sourcebooks published, this could lead to a new age, one where the dark lord is either (partially) destroyed or where he succeeded in his new evil plans. This reminds me of Dragonlance.

Finally, why didn't you make Midnight a stand-alone d20 RPG (like Wheel of Time) since you made so many (good) changes compared top D&D? Or don't you really "really" need the PHB ?

This topic is too good to let it fade away. Bumping this back to the top!

Let it fade. Crap, by posting "let it fade" I am in fact perpetuating the thread's existance.

Damn!

This campaign setting underwhelms me. The mood is already set and there is really only one way to run it, its more like a large module than anything.

Oh yeah, IMHO. :D

I have to concur that this setting rocks.

Just picked it up this weekend and WOW!

Cool, then we should have plenty to talk about next month! :)

whoohoo!

I finally got Midnight this weekend and I've got to say that I am absolutely astounded. This is a wonderful setting and is exactly what I've been looking for.

I especially love how the emphasis is put on the character and not on the equipment he carries.

Well, to be fair, Scarred Lands is a great setting. It just isn't as gritty as I wanted it to be and I think Midnight was better presented.

On another note, while I havn't seen Ghostwalk yet, from the sounds of it, it definatly has a home within Midnight. See the Lost for example.

If your soul can't reach heaven, well.... why not keep adventuring? You've got nothing better to do. :D Of course, you might have a tough time staying sane, but everybody needs a hobby.
