Military, Simple, and Superior Weapon Groups?

However my theory is that kukri will come under dagger and, maybe, rapier under short sword. mechanically they will be the same.

I really doubt this especially considering that they have added weapon properties. I'd bet dollars to dough nuts that a Rapier is a Rapier and a Short Sword is a Short Sword.

I am surprised to see the short sword and bastard sword in the superior weapon category. If those two were not in there it would be obvious that the superior weapon category is for fanboy weapons which are better than everything else. Just the name "superior" say that. I really can't see how the whip would be a superior weapon at all. Its hard to justify that the whip is a viable weapon at all.

When a short sword is already a superior weapon I really don't want to know what a simple weapon is. Probably a dead rat tied to a stick (and the epic version is a dead dire rat tied to a big stick).

I think bug. As I posted elsewhere, I think that "military" is pretty clearly renamed to eliminate confusion with "martial," and "exotic" was never a good word for "exotic" weapons to begin with. An "exotic" weapon is really just a benefit (or a package of benefits, in the case of the spiked chain) over a simple or martial weapon in 3e.

There was confusion with martial?

'Military' weapons sounds a little odd and anachronistic, even though though its roughly synonymous. But, I am surprised there isn't a lot of shouting and carrying on by people. 'First the warlord class is going to make their players take over parties and shout at people, now were being forced to join armies if we want to use a longsword!'

so do you see it as:
three levels of quality from simple (a simple spiked chain) to military (a military spiked chain) to superior (a superior spiked chain)?
or
simple and military weapons can be made 'superior' (as 3E simple and martial weapons can be made masterwork)?

My original thought was that there was three quality levels as well. Unfortunately, I can't see how changing the number of weapon qualities from two to three would make the game more streamlined (which seems to be WOTC's goal).

Superior (renamed exotic ) does make sense with all the weapons listed save for the short sword and the whip. (bastard swords are the katanas of the west/europe basically)

My guess is that short swords willnow be stuff such as ninjatoz; basically light cool light blades. Also whips wioll allow you to do cool stuff such as swing from the chandelier and do a high flying kcik to the enemy! (dragons leap kick!)

I don't like the choice of word either, but they decided on the martial power source name.

Honestly, if we can have fun with "level" meaning several different things, we can probably handle "martial" power sources and "martial" weapons.

It ("military" weapons) does sound weird. The only other words I might use are "complex" and "trained", but even those are kind of weird as well.
