No way I am going to spend money in buying miniatures, ever. They might make your game much cooler, but you need a lot of them, unless you always use the same monsters in every adventure.
I was very curious to find out what's going to be in a Miniature Handbook, and I thought it would have been a stand-alone alternative player's handbook for the people who want to play exactly a miniature game and not a roleplaygame (maybe D&D with combat only?). If 50% of the book is "D&D stuff", it makes not much sense. And I am just sick and tired of "stuff" and "crunchy bits", feats, spells, prestige classes... just too many! Who gets to really use more than a couple from every book? Perhaps I just play too little, or our PCs survive too long, and we don't have chances to play so many things.
I wonder why WotC is including mass combat rules in a handbook for a game which is based on team-fighting with probably not more than 10-12 monsters per team. Where is the "mass"? Should have been perhaps in the upcoming Complete Warrior?
