Mission Impossible: 4 - Ghost Protocol. Anyone seen it?

I am planning on hitting the matinee tomorrow to go see Mission Impossible:4. It's getting awesome reviews, and though I know there are those that won't see anything with Tom Cruise due to his personal beliefs, I've never had a problem separating his personal life with his skill in his craft.

Personally, I think he's developed into a pretty good actor over the years.

I am excited to go, but I wanted to find out if any of you EW's have seen it, and what did you think?

I've seen it. It's not bad, even though the characters are two-dimensional, and the action setups are kinda forced. There's a seduction scene that's totally out of rhythm, and you wonder why there aren't more folks going after the big baddie and why the IMF just doesn't put a bullet in his head.

Still, it's enjoyable popcorn entertainment with a few good action set pieces. I thought Simon Pegg made the film for me.

It's a good popcorn movie. It has more humor than previous MI's movies and a few, really spectacular sequences, such as when Tom Cruise is climbling that building in Dubai. I would give it an 8.5/10 - worth seeing.

It was good, did have some slow moments. The humor was very good and Tom took a beating in some of the scenes that were kind of surprising.

Give it 7.5 to 8

I saw it the day that it opened in IMAX and loved it.

To me it's the best movie in the series and the only one that feels like a team movie. Tom Cruise is still definitely the star but Paula Patton, Simon Pegg and Jeremy Renner arent just window dressing. Each of the team members have a definitive story arc (some larger than others) and the action set pieces (particularly the team's arrival in Dubai) start with a slow build and then just escalate from there.

The sequence with Ethan scaling the Burj Kalifa in Dubai is AMAZING on the IMAX screen. If you have any issues with heights AT ALL dont see this on the IMAX screen. There's one shot in particular when Ethan is about to step out of the open window and the IMAX camera is over his shoulder looking down as HE looks down and the sense of vertigo was strong. And I dont have that big of an issue with heights.

The villain of the movie is driven by a purpose that we are told about but never really made to understand, so that might be an issue for some people but other than that this movie really has no fat. For an two hour running time it's pretty lean and action packed and Ethan Hunt takes a bit of a beating in this one. More so than in any of the other M:I films. In M:I 3 he takes a pummeling from Owen Davian but the effects are kind of negligible. In this one he's banged up and it definitely shows.

It's my favorite of the M:I films with 3 coming next then 1. I really try very hard to forget that the 2nd M:I film exists at all. 9/10

The IMF had a "name" for the big baddie, not an identity. [sblock] The name was "Cobolt". That was the whole point of them breaking into the Kremlin at the beginning of the movie (to pull the file on Cobolt) and the set up for everything that happens afterwards. By the time they have an identity to go with the name THERE IS NO IMF. It's just Ethan and his team. [/sblock]

Just got back. I'd give it a solid 7 as an action film. I agree with the above about the seduction scene and some of the other minor problems. Some very exciting scenes overall.

Yeah but why keep it to yourself? Spread the word so other folks would nab him. We're talking about nuclear winter here, not a bank robbery. Even if they had been disavowed, I'm sure that they can warn people.

The whole switch thing at the hotel was bizarrely complicated, and never quite worked in generating much tension.
