I think they should put Dire creatures in the Giant type -- it should expand beyond big humanoids.

The problem with that is that the dire wolf (I think the only dire animal in 5e), in the real world were the same size as the modern grey wolf.

They also aren’t even classified as wolves anymore!

This does indeed suggest that giant versions of animals are likely to become giants rather than beasts.

In many cases, I'd agree, but the dire wolf in D&D is based on a real creature. I also like my dinos with feathers.

I imagine the Guardian Naga will become a Celestial along with the Sphinxes.

Yeah I could see Guardian Naga shifting to Celestials. Not sure what else not yet mentioned would.
