Mark, I've some little questions:

Have I any ties or debts with the temple?

Am I supposed to ask for permission to leave?

Should I have to ask to go out as a missionary?

If I have to find the answers in game, nevermind.

Okie dokie...

No debts but you did voluntarily join into the service of the temple and as such are receiving "three hots and a cot" from them.

If you are leaving, I'm sure they'd like to know. ;)

If you're leaving, and wish to still be attached to this temple, you'd might wish to make those arrangements.

DOH! I should have read the whole post before... :D Truly, though, it is something that you'll want to do "in game" if you're concerned where you stand with the temple. :)

Mark,

I just have to say that I am very impressed with how this is going so far. You did an excellent job of putting us together. Actually, you've given me ideas for my own game. ;)

Other than the story about the older cleric that died, are there any other rumors of adventure floating around that Shade may have heard?

Thanks. :)

Shade's kinda the loose end here, in that he's not from "the big town". Of course, there is his brother's fate and some details I could go into on that score but I thought you'd rather move forward than back at this time. I'll work some of that in and leave it up to you. I still have lots of info to add in for turtle regarding Beltazar and religious info for Mario (Lichtenhart), which puts your request in as one of three. :)

A word of caution. I appreciate that you want to keep this moving quickly, but when I drop a hook on one player (I.E. Riversplit knowledge to Danmor), it isn't really fair to have your character hit with an epiphony about a place that means next to nothing to him. It smacks of that whole Meta-gaming thing we really want to avoid. Also, don't forget that someone (Jack) works the nightshift and his clock is all discombobulated. Rushing out of town might not happen without some physical difficulties... ;)

*edit* Just to be clear... I don't want you to go back and change anything you've done. It isn't that bad or anything and we'll just move on from where we are. Just try and stick with the cards you're dealt in the future and allow other players to play the cards I deal them. (shrug) *end edit*

Well... Jack's not exactly keen on going AWOL and running the risk of getting hanged for desertion, just because some country-bumpkin-brother-of-a-thief-shepherd says so. :p

Both in game, and in real life... A nice touch, Mark. ;)

Heh heh heh ;)

I really don't want what I posted to come off as being too harsh toward Ash, so let me add one more perspective. I think it bears noting that all of us have yet to find a "group pacing" yet.

By that I mean that turtle and Ash seem to want and move along quickly with lots of info up front while Jack is clearing up his own character's business without allowing for much interaction immediately and Mario (Lichtenhart) is approaching the game with a "make a small move, wait for any and all reactions, make another small move" approach. This leaves me, at least at the beginning of the game, with the task of covering as many "knowledge bases" right at the outset for four players, while still trying to jump start a storyline that will intrigue all parties involved. It bears pointing out that there is no "one right way" to play the game on message boards.

As a suggestion, whenever you find that your writing is putting your character in contact with another character run by a player, try and pause at that point to allow for reactions. (I will break this rule with NPCs often, but allow me some leeway so that we don't have tons of NPCs that merely eat up time and don't further the story. :) ) Don't just drop your pen, though. Define your "emotional character". Go inside the character at that point and add some of your character's thoughts on the situation. This doesn't mean you need to make things up to write about that aren't already defined regarding the world around you, either. Simple things like how they feel about their clothes, whether they like pudding or beef, if they combed their hair, maybe they're plagued by a nagging ailment or mild cold, etc. Some of these things are examples that some of you have explored and others I'm just throwing out there.

I'll give you much more but don't want to flood the field with so much that it distracts from a character focus I feel is vital at this early stage. *shrug* We'll find our pacing soon enough and all be better for having laid a firm foundation so please don't let the pacing frustrate you now, whether you'd like it faster or slower... :)

I don't know, Mark. It seemed to me, that the characters are fleshing out their personalities pretty accurately...

The wizard's apprentice, who believes his master is holding him back and may be too arrogant for his own good.

The shepherd's son with the larcenous (dead) brother, who's afflicted by the wanderlust. He wants to go see the world, and be something more than his father was. And yet, at the same time, harbor lingering doubts about abandoning the failing farm. He douses his doubts in the hope that he'll find wealth and treasures during his adventures to bring home.

The acolyte, ingrained with the life of a simple servant to the gods, and yet eager to eager to do great deeds in the name of the church. How will be balance humility with glory?

And the soldier who is torn between duty and the promise of life of renown. He is a common man, who cannot simply leave his life behind at the drop of a hat.

*Shrug* Actually, so far, I've found the differences and interplay between the different personalities inspiring... And just because they're neighbors, doesn't necessarily mean that they are all fast friends. :) I'm quite curious to see what sort of impetus you'll give the characters to begin their adventures.

Heh, heh...

That's just as much your fault as mine, Mark. Really, the poor guy just got off the graveyard shift. He's tired and wants to go to bed. HOw much interaction can you expect?

And it's precisely because of any interaction that he can't get to sleep now... So NYAH! :p

Fair enough. :) As long as no one is getting frustrated maybe my fears are unfounded. I'd like everyone to chime in on this, though, just to be sure we're all on the same page. Thanks.

I am enjoying greatly this game! My greatest fear was to discover my english not good enough, but it seems I can survive :D

Mark, you described my approach perfectly ;)

Frustrated? I think you are doing a wonderful job, everyone is such a good player, that I sometimes feel not up to the task, so I try to do my best. :o

So my opinion is: go ahead, I'm lovin' it.

(BTW, have Dan and Jack's father the same voice? You stole me silver :p :D )
