Module kitbash Suggestions (Freeport + Witchfire)

Hey, all. I'm interested in running something soon, and although I have my homebrew waiting and (nearly) rarin' to go, I've also been intrigued lately by looking back over my old Freeport modules and the Witchfire trilogy. For a time-delimited campaign, I'm thinking about throwing the first three Freeport modules and the Witchfire modules altogether into the metaphorical blender and seeing what comes out.

Anybody have any suggestions on what elements from each you'd keep in such a chimera and why? I could always just do my own thing, of course, but I'm interested in what other people think. Corvus and Freeport share a lot of stylistic similarities in some ways, so I think the combination could be a good one.

Sounds like a great idea! You'd probably have to change the plot for the Witchfire Trilogy though since A LOT of people picked up that series. Freeport is also very popular, as you mentioned. Those should turn out some really good city adventures.

Have you considered perhaps adding a hamlet or a village to that mix, too? :)

The Hamlet of Thumble just received a nomination for "The RPG or Supplement Most Likely to Inspire Good Roleplaying" by GameWyrd:

The Village of Oester was released just over a week ago.

Actually, the only module that my group has amongst us (besides myself) is the first Freeport module. Me, on the other hand, I have all the Freeport stuff, including Black Flags, and all the Iron Kingdoms stuff released to date, including Warmachine.

Villages, huh? I was thinking more of an urban campaign, though.

I think it's a cool idea. You'll need to adapt Freeport so that it's not surrounded by jungle, but I can't remember that making any real difference. While you're at it you could make the 1st witchfire adventure much less railroaded! ;)

True, I don't need all that jungle, but I do like the swamps around Corvus. A lot of those adventures do involve travel out into the boonies to find stuff, including that pretty cool "riverboat" set piece from the second part of Witchfire.

Anyway, since I don't seem to be getting any concrete suggestions, maybe I can post what I have in mind and see what people think. Naturally, this assumes the PCs will do what I have in mind, which may or may not be true, but rather than try to explain all the alternatives I've got going on in my head, I'll just describe the path of least resistance:
  • I like the set-up premise of both; I wonder if I could combine them somehow -- the PCs are on a ship that is raided by pirates, and although the PCs fight them off, the ship itself has to limp into FreeCorvusPort dumping the PCs off on the docks essentially penniless and stranded.
  • Press gangs or muggers; either way, both are a quick and dirty method to throw some quick and easy combat at the PCs shortly after making landfall.
  • Brother Eigil can approach them at this point, and make his pitch.
  • Alexia Ciannor and Brother Lucius can be combined into Lucia. She's recently gone missing, and Father Dumas has recruited Brother Eigil to try and find some help and see if he can find her. At this point they're not terribly concerned that she's been the victim of anything untoward, but FreeCorvusPort (not the real name!) isn't the type of city that you want your young women to go missing in.
  • Drop a bunch of hooks including missing bodies in the graveyards around the city (a Witchfire hook) and investigation of Lucia's quarters (a more Freeportish hook)
  • Kinda vague on what's next, but I'm thinking I don't want to go through the "PCs watch as Oberon and Alexia duke it out" ending of Witchfire. I'm thinking Lucia can't be quite as capable in this case as Alexia is; she needs to be in need of rescuing a bit, as Brother Lucius is. Rather than Milos torturing her for information about her "lost five years", however, he can be torturing her for information about the Witchfire itself.
  • I'm thinking of following a more Freeportish series of events, and then after rescuing Lucia the PCs get the clues needed to go out of town and recover the actual sword.
Anyway, those are only vague ideas for the first coupla sessions; and depending on what the PCs do and what happens, I may not be able to plan much beyond that anyway, but any more ideas on how to combine the two concepts?

Hmmm... pretty disappointing number of responses so far. Oh well, one last *bump* just to make sure there's not some brilliant reply just waiting to be made...
