(MoF) The Merciful magical attribute

In Magic of Faerun, there is a magic weapon attribute called Merciful. It states that the weapon does an additional 1d6 of damage, and all the damage it does is subdual. It then says that this attribute may be deactivated with a command word (or something close to that... I'm at work w/out my book).

My question is this... if the Merciful attribute is deactivated... ie: If you're going to do real damage with the weapon... do you still get the +1d6 damage?

No. The merciful enhancement is only one power; you can't activate it halfway. Either it's on, in which case you do subdual damage and gain the +1d6 bonus, or it's off, in which case you do neither. There's no state in between.

I read it always the way that the extra 1d6 only applies as subdual damage (merciful). So if you switch of merciful you just do normal damage (without the extra 1d6).

If (IF) the holy bonus on a weapon could be switched of, it would also do 2d6 points of damage less. Similar case here except that you can indeed switch Merciful off.

Other weapon properties can be activated and deactivated; it takes a standard action either way. This isn't very important for that holy sword, but it's a necessity for most of the energy types (unless you have an asbestos scabbard to keep your flaming sword in).
