D&D 5E Monk Weapons

While if you wait for SCAG you will have a Monk option to cover your ranged monk

The Sunsoul Monk? It's okay, but it doesn't hold a candle (pun intended) to the Zen Archer BS that previous editions had.

I was waffling between the two but decided on Rapier because they're both primarily thrusting weapons and the Jian is typically too long to be a "short sword". Also, they serve similar purposes in actual fighting with great similarity in technique once you get passed the east/west thing.

The jian evolved into versions of differing lengths over time, while still being a light (Dex-based, in game terms) thrusting weapon.

I was pleased to see the jian get mentioned as a monk weapon, because my latest organized play PC is a wood elf Rog 1/Monk 2, and I've fluffed her shortsword as a jian.

Am I correct in saying the spear has reach also?
