Monk with Quarter Staff

Good point! But is that worth the cost of the ability? Any time you can attack wth a weapon, you could also just attack with an unarmed strike...

Ahh, but this way you can actually *stack* the monk's unarmed DR bypassing with that of the weapon, so you wouldn't need your weapon to be adamantine or lawful (obviously it'll be magical). So if you had a holy cold iron Sai, you could bypass any combination of good, magic, adamantine, cold iron, and lawful. That's pretty cool, though I assume it's a +1 ability, and for +2 you could just *get* lawful.

So basically it's a way for a weapon to count as two materials... and I think the only way possible currently.

Is it worth it? Probably not.... but it's not worthless.

Well, made the character tonight and my GM had no problem with it. So now I have my Quarterstaff made of Ironwood, with a silver buttcap on one end and cold iron on the other.

So I can bypass DR of magic, lawful, silver or cold iron on my own.

My quarterstaff would still be made of wood...but there are numerous historical references for a quarterstaff with metal butt caps on the ends.

Those buttcaps should be able to be made out of different metals...but yes, it would be up to my GM.

It's the same as an axe with a wooden haft, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, I think a quarterstaff should do more damage as well. I think a quarterstaff with metal caps could do d8s for damage as well. Of course, it would cost more.

By the way, I love your idea, and I might propose it to my DM for my monk. Personally, I can't wait for his fists to become adamantine :)

Why don't you use one of those three-pronged staffs? It kinda looks like a really big nunchuck. You see them in lots of martial arts movies, maybe it's in Unapproachable East or Oriental Adventures? Since it is already a metal weapon, there wouldn't be any game issues with using a cold iron/silver side. Also, you might be able to buy extra parts so you can switch them out. Or something like that I'm not sure how that would work, or how practical it would be.

Novel idea, but what you have created is essentially a "new" weapon. I mean a quarterstaff with metal butt caps should be doing more damage than a normal quarterstaff and cost more (as in something) right?

I shun you.

I wouldn't mess with him. Being able to raise something 7 years dead...he has to be at least a 13th level Cleric. And since Cleric levels are like dog years compared to other classes, that's like a 91st level Fighter!;)

The impressive thing is that this thread has more posts since yesterday than some new threads, very impressive thread necromancy.
