I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Sean K Reynolds designed the Krenshar for 3E to fill the low level fear monster gap.

Yep, I have that quote in my D&D Monster Origins page. I'm thinking of emailing him to see what other monsters he may have made.

Is everyone sure The Tojanida is new? I could have sworn it was in the first edition FF or MMII.
They looked less like turtles and more like Buck Rogers rockets as I recall.

I could have sworn that the Tojanda were from the Planescape monster book about the Inner Planes, but I don't have my copy here to confirm that.

Nope, the tojanida does not appear in any Planescape product. (I just checked.)

Nope, the grick's first appearance was in the the 3.0 MM.

If I'm not entirely wrong, the % of new monster would ROUGHLY be.

MM 8-10%
MM2 40-50%
FF 90-95%
MM3 100% (correction, probably 90-95%, forgot the 'Loths)
MM4 100% (not counting monsters who already appeared in MM in some form).

Those are rough numbers though...

The Fiend Folio has many monsters from past editions...probably closer to 50% split.

MMIII carryovers include flinds, kenku, sussurrus, trillock, visilight (used to be called parai), chrall and of course the yugoloths you mentioned.
