Ironically, I think that one is reasonably faithful to the folkloric monster.
What the world needs is a translation of Beowulf where he wrestles with a C.I.F.A.L.
Or a painting of St. George and the Otyugh, that sort of thing.

Also, I had an encounter with Lava Children (I love that smile:)) all ready for use in my "Out of the Frying Pan" campaign, but the PCs never got to that area - maybe in my current campaign, though it'd be harder to pull off.

I have been considering starting a 1E FF thread with how I used them in games and how I converted them, but time is short these days - maybe over the summer.

I just realized that I don't even remember most of the monsters I'd nominate for the Monsters of Suck -- I'm pretty good at purging that sort of thing from my mind. I'm just remembering them as you guys are naming them -- flail snail, egads!

Overall, this product looks pretty cool and I was excited to see the ad in the latest Dungeon.

Monsters of Suck? How about the stirge? I hear one of them can suck the life right out of you....

I put my PC's up against a pair of paragon stirges. Oh, the horror....

You're all in for a treat. I hope (but somehow doubt) that you'll find it as amusing as I do.

heh heh, cool.

yeah, the Fiend Folio did have a lot of lame illustrations. you can add the crabman to that list as well.

as far as Ogremoch, yeah, he did look awfully silly in the FF. and the Planescape Monstrous Compendium III illustration looked even less like i felt he should - Andrew Hou made him look much much better. :)
