However, unless the DM house-rules the ability buffing spells, as well as the Greater Magic weapon spell, this ability will MAINLY be used to give junior Paladin proteges their first holy swords. :) By the time the paladin gets his sacred +1 weapon at 12th level, the Paladin will, courtesy of the Cleric or the wizard in the party, have a +4 sword that lasts for 36 hours! (Greater Magic Weapon, Extended twice and cast by a 12th level cleric or wizard.)
Well, of course. :D

It is certainly a YMMV type of thing. I tend to run low-magic campaigns so I'm a little skewed towards liking it more. Plus, anything to give the Paladin a little extra flavor beyond 10th level is okay with me. :)

I agree jm. I mean with R&R1 and R&R2, the spells are open (at least their spell descriptions, not their names or their RP stuff) but at least they are there. Still I like the idea behind oath feats. As I said I might use them more off. Sort of like the old quest spells but more focused.

I've never really understood the not OGLing all spell names. I understand not letting people use the 'Bigby' in Bigby's Clenched fist; Bigby is intrinsically part of the Greyhawk world. (And I'd understand with spells like Malhavoc's Nasty Noogy, or anything else like that).

But I'm not sure why there's a movement against OGLing all spell and monster names.... It smacks a little bit of following the letter of the law but not the spirit.

It forces someone reusing the spell (or monster) to reprint in its entirety and make up a new name. This makes it much harder for the person who wants to find the original author and give him support by buying his book when he has to link up the descriptions of spells in all of the books mentioned in the license.

Or maybe I'm just too open. It was only in a recent Tuesday's Two-Pager that I used PI for anything other than the title of the work and the company name.

I am curious and I don't think was touched on just yet, any new weapon qualities/armor qualities mentioned in the book Henry/Psion? What about the mounts, was there a way to make so that if Paladin didn't want one, he could get another ability instead?

Raising the barriers to entry in a market is one common way to protect yourself from competitors. Still, it's a business and traditionally business simple presumes mantaining the maximum amount of control that can be. Without really understanding people's motivations its hard to make a statement. There may be some compelling reason (other than making it hard for people to use your stuff) I can't see from my armchair...

Actually the biggest chance is that people will assume the second author is a "theif" and they're trying to pass of someone else's work as their own (because they just took a cool spell and changed the name).

Nothing like that. Although I think its NG paladins do not get a mount, but instead get to summon a celestial creature 1/day (like a monster summoning spell).

Also, if it wasn't mentioned before, Monte's paladin gets extra smites at higher levels. I think the new one is at level 10 and another at 16.
