The first fifteen minutes of UP had me sniffling.

Very, very good, and the only movie this summer that I am likely to see twice. Better than Star Trek, at least in my opinion.

The Auld Grump, next time I will bring a handkerchief. :)

Those first 15 minutes were the most depressing 15 minutes of a cartoon since Bambi's mom got blasted. You got to admit, the people at Pixar know how to tell a powerful tail.

I enjoyed Star Trek more, but UP was the better film, so let's call it a tie.

The first 10-15 minutes of UP are a marvel. I had tears in my eyes. The central image/conceit/visual metaphor --a man being tied down by something that's literally weightless-- is genius. The worst you can say about UP is the stuff that's brilliant makes the stuff that's merely good stand out.

Like the villain of the piece. He works, fits with the theme, and yet, I can't shake the feeling UP would have been even better if they would have found a way to make the story work without him. He's smacks of being necessary, and it kinda --ahem-- weighs a film that's so often inspired down.

Also, a couple of critics called UP cold. They're nuts. If you don't feel something during this movie your heart is either defective or AWOL from your chest.

I have not yet seem Up, but from what I have seen and heard, this is a bit of an "apples and oranges" comparison.
