Moving to C&C... need help

Moggthegob

First Post
In reaction to 4e, I was thinking of taking my regular games, one set in Greyhawk, the other in eberron and possibly moving them to C&C. This seems ambitious but hpwo do I convert 3.x material into C&C material. For instance my GH group is doing White Plume Mountain and heading for expedition to Castle Greyhawk and my eberron group is doing a homebrew.

ALso more specifically, how do I do C&C conversion o shifters, Warforged, Kalashtar and Changelings. For psionics I thought Id just make all psions and wizards effectively the same except for flavor..

Any help here would be much appreciation

You can start by joining dragonfoot's C&C forums and Troll Lord Game's Forums.

There are lots of guys willing to help you there. I only don't know if there are very fond of Eberron.

Someone did some conversions of Eberron races at the Troll Lord Forums.

Search in those places.

By the way, C&C is a GREAT game.

I think the conversion from d20 to C&C is piece of cake. I went through that.

Not knocking C&C, I agree it's a great game but I have to ask... why convert at all? Why not just keep playing the game you already know and don't need to convert? I doubt 3.5 will fade away... ever... much like OD&D and other editions are still about and played by folks.

I bought C&C so that I could have a rules light game that would be easy to teach people who have never played this genre of game before (namely my wife and kids), but I plan to continue to play 3.5 campaigns, and I look forward to trying out 4th edition whenever it comes out.

I'd say that unless your players are on board with this, such a game would be headed for disaster - the PCs are going to totally lose all their feats and all their skills. So, if that's important to the players, they need to understand what those changes mean and how they will continue to do those things within the C&C framework.

It's doable, but unless you and your entire group hate 3e, I'd tread cautiously.

Well i suppose I misspoke. I have two supercampaigns setup one in eberron and one in greyhawk. We decided that we wanted to give c&c a try and for some reason 4e announcement was our big go ahead signal. SO the next two legs of our supercampaigns will be c&c. And hence why i came looking for help.

A good way to describe skills and feats in C&C.

Feats: everyone "has" them. Meaning the "action type feats" like Cleave, Great Cleave, Power Attack, MAximize spell (obviously only if your a spellcaster), etc....

Just instead of automatically doing them they have to do a SIEGE check.

Skills are "built into" the SIEGE Engine and the class descriptions. When they select Primes they are essentially deciding not only what do they want extra good saves against (saves are based on each of your stats) they are also deciding what skills related to that stat they are extra good in (extra good being a +6 bonus, effectively).

What skills do their characters have? First, what is spelled out in their class descriptions. Second, whatever makes sense to you and your players, or by using whatever method you wish to establish a "list" to keep things clear. For instance I base my skills on 3E rules. Others have their players write a background and have any skills that they can explain having in their background, etc...

Anyways, come to the TLG boards. We'll help you as best we can.

I'd say this is a common misconception about C&C, and if you're switching to it, be wary.

Unlike more rules-heavy games, just because it isn't written on your character sheet doesn't mean you can't do it. If you convert characters with feats and such, they can still do them using the SIEGE engine. Heck, characters can try pretty much whatever the DM (or GM or CK or whatever) allows, suing the SIEGE engine.

For converted characters, I'd probably give them a bonus to their SIEGE role, or if they have signature feates/skills/abilities, I might make success automatic. (IIRC, Treebore does something similar, where after successfully performing a "feat-like" action many times, the character stops having to make a SIEGE to do that action.)

What if I've taken Craft Wand, Craft Ring, and Craft Wondrous item? How does the SIEGE engine replace those?

Let me echo those who have also posted in recommending you join the forums at www.trolllord.com. It's a very helpful community.

It's all detailed in Monsters and Treasure, but I haven't looked at it for some time, so I can't remember many of the details. There is a level requirement for making certain items, but I don't remember if a SIEGE check is necessary, although your DM might call for one.
