D&D 5E MPMB's D&D 5e Character Tools

First - thank you for this amazing resource. It's one of the very few PWYW items I've actually paid for, if that says anything other than that I'm cheap...

I downloaded v12.85 yesterday and updated a few character sheets, various classes, races - no problems at all. However today I opened one to make a small change, and somehow the AC calculation got messed up. Both the Dex number in the Armor box, and the calculated AC shown in the shield now say "NaN". I can't see what I could have done. I didn't make any changes to Dex, armor or shield areas, and it won't let me change the text for either spot that says NAN now.

Any ideas what might have happened? I'd hate to have to re-enter everything only to have it happen again.
First off, great to hear you like the sheet!

This seems like a strange error. This is not supposed to happen, so I have no idea how it might have happened and rely on you to inform me how it happened ;)
I would like to remedy this problem if it is a bug in the sheet, but I don't really have enough information to try to recreate the error that you are getting, as you don't really say what you have done prior to this coming about (and you might not know anymore).

The only things I can think of are:
- Did you open the sheet in another software than Adobe Acrobat? For example, Preview on Mac is known to kill the functionality of this sheet and just opening a sheet once in that program will permanently destroy it (as most Macs are set to auto-save changes to files).
- You ran some custom code in the "Add Custom Script" dialogue that affected something unexpected.

If you send me the sheet that has this problem, I might be able to pinpoint what is going wrong.

So, if someone wanted to set that up, they would just need to script in the "new" Feral Tiefling race and give them the same options that the Tiefling gets but with the +2 DEX instead of +2 CHA.

And, MPMB, what do you mean it wasn't considered? The Human Variant goes from +1 to all stats to +1 to two stats. Just code the Feral Tiefling so it doesn't get the +2 to CHA and the player has to set the +2 DEX, same as going from Human to Variant Human. Does that not work in code?
What doesn't work is that you can have a Feral, Winged Tiefling. You can select the Feral Tiefling as a variant for the Tiefling and you'll see it works just as expected. But you can't then apply one of the other variants and keep the Feral variant as well.

Right. So what I'm saying is, someone can "copy" the Tiefling, rename it Feral Teifling and give it the +2 DEX instead of +2 CHA. Then you would just have to code the variant options to recognize 'Feral Tiefling' as well as Tiefling. Right? Ignore the second part of that post, as I was just thinking out loud and in your general direction. Lol

Might I suggeat making regular and Feral Tieflings two seperate races?

Yes, a possibility for adding the Feral Tiefling would be to make it a separate race with its own variants. And then deleting the 'Feral' variant from the regular Tiefling.

I have thought about doing it this way, but eventually decided against it as the Feral option is a variant and not a race in its own right. I foresee that I would get just as many people complaining about it being listed as such as I now get people complaining that they shouldn't be mutually exclusive, so in that regard it doesn't really matter. The sheet has grown that much in popularity that people tend to nitpick everything in it ;)

Maybe it is an idea to add it as a separate code in the Fan-made Addition folder.

Email sent to the addy supplied in the sheet, with notes on some new twists. Very strange.

A new version with the new feature of automatically adding ability score increases from feats to the Ability Score dialogue (just like it works for races).

[H=6]Changelog for MPMB's Character Record Sheet v12.87 (10 March 2017):[/H]
  • NEW FEATURE: Feats now have their own column in the Ability Scores dialogue, which is automatically filled by feats that have a fixed effect on ability scores;
  • NEW CONTENT: Added the Faerie Dragon (with the help of Patrick O.);
  • Added the option to add ‘features’ to creatures in the CreatureList (see the syntax files);
  • Fixed an issue with Wild Shapes getting the wrong skill proficiency when having the skills on the first page sorted by ability score (thanks LogosWorks for reporting);
  • Fixed an issue where inserting an empty feat could remove things it shouldn’t.

Amazing work! Even more amazing to see it being continuously updated.

A few suggestions on the Spell Sheet:

- For those of us who use the Spell Point variant rule, it'd be very handy to have the spell points indicated on the Spell Sheet as well, instead of only on the first character page.

- And for Ritual Casters, another checkbox types can facilitate tracking of ritual spellbook spells. I know there's already a custom text option, but would love to see another option that fits the visual scheme...

Keep up the great work!

I just recently started using this and really like it a lot. Thanks, for putting it together.
Thank you very much, hope you get a lot of fun out of it!

Thank you, and thank you for the suggestions.

Regarding the suggestions:
1) The spell points variant is part of the sheet and you can have it appear in place of the spell slots on the spell sheet by selecting the option from the spell menu. But maybe you mean that you want a place on the spell sheet to keep track of the spell points, as that is now only in the limited features section. The problem with this is that there isn't currently any space in the design of the spell sheet that could be used like this unless I change some of the lay-out, requiring me to make some custom elements, some custom coding, and edit the very fragile spell sheet form pages (editing is a big problem because of the sheer amount of fields on those pages and the tendency to make Acrobat crash).

2) The problem with this is very much the same as point 1. There is simply no space to add another column. I would have to remove another column (not feasible) or reduce another columns width, which can only really work for the name or description columns. However, all names and descriptions have been carefully made to fit in the columns width, so changing either would require me to go over every spell and find a way to shorten their name or description, not something I think is feasible either. This is why I went to the "(R)" tag in the name for the ritual spells.
