My sister almost attacked a Pregnant Woman!

Isn't the very definition of addicition not being able to quit regardless of the consequences that result? Cigarettes are extremely addictive. Either the woman had a low will save, or the DC was too high... And now her kid winds up paying for it. It sucks, but that's the way it is.

My wife was in the hospital for about six weeks prior to the birth of our little girl (both are now happy and healthy).

Of the absolute pile of stories I have from that period, the most discouraging took place a few days before my daughter was born. A woman, who we discovered was 35 and had lupus, was hospitalized because her blood sugar was too high. For the next two days she did nothing but complain about the hospital food and accomidations and begged the nurses for juice instead of water (or anything else sugary). She also asked family members to bring her ice cream before the doctors made her start a diet. Talk about being unclear on the concept. Keep in mind, this was an IT professional in Georgetown hospiatal, which boasts one of the best neo-natal wards in the country. She knew better. The hospital has a long track record of making sure women in her condition know better. She just didn't give a crap.

I guess what really got to us was that a few weeks prior to that, the same bunk had been occupied by a woman who had to keep her feet elevated so her triplets wouldn't be prematurely born at 5 months, but had to have a tube down her lungs to pump out the liquid that was slowly forming there.

I'm amazed kids get born at all.

I personally have three known very minor physical deformities because my mother smoked during the preganancy - and I'm thankful that it isn't worse. These thinks are just bad.

But heh, at least she wasn't smoking crack.

Maybe it was Mom's smoking that'd given me those extra fingers and toe that she had to get removed after I was born.... :\

My wife and I try for about ten years to get pregnant (she has a birth defect that makes for about a one in a million chance). I get really mad, pissed off and rather rude when I see people smoking about women that are expecting and get a little more then pissed off when I see a woman that is with child sucking down cancer sticks.

I have come to the conclusion that you can't change people. People are told what smoking does to the unborn, and they ignore that, they lose their baby or the kid is born with serious problems- why? Cause people are stupid.

My wife and I have practiced and practiced, trying with all our heart to get with child. Not sure of how good of parents we will be, but chances are the kid will know we want him or her.

On the 25th, my wife gave me a card (she was five days late)- I guess even the unlucky get lucky once in a while. :D :D :D

Congrats on the unclehood! :D
I know a premie can be a very scary thing. I'm glad the baby is healthy. :)

On the smoker front. Bleh. I feel bad for the poor kid... :(
