My sister almost attacked a Pregnant Woman!

VD - Congrats on the Unclehood! I'm glad the baby and mom are doing well. Premies take a huge emotional toll on the whole family.

Harmon - Congrats and Good luck!

Whoa. Kitty litter and cocaine?* No wonder my nose sometimes gets runny and I get a buzz when I scoop the boxes...

It all makes sense now. :D

<rant>I often see similar things to the previous examples - pregnant women smoking, drinking to excess, etc etc etc. Sometimes it's hard enough to watch people engage in self-destructive behavior. But when they knowingly and uncaringly endanger their children as well - I might be able to support mandatory human spay/neuter and licensing to breed. </rant>

*and yes, I am well versed in Toxoplasmosis and the relative risk that 'cat litter' entails for pregnant women. I won't side-track this discussion more than I have already.

I would have had a hard time of not saying something to that idiot, VD. I'm a smoker myself, but I'm trying to quit and be off the damn things for at least a year before my fiancee and I try to have kids after the wedding. It's just the right thing to do. I even love smoking, but to be able to do my part in making sure that my kids are healthy means that I'll give up the habit. It's part of being a responsible adult.

There really needs to be a liscence to have kids. People should have to take tests to see if they are mentally, physically, and morally capable of raising a child. That woman should have been arrested.

Yea,

Well I had other things on my mind. And I'm pretty sure that if all the nurses (who have have all worked their 16-30 years) telling her every horror story (and they have some dozies)about what could happend if she continued to smoke didn't faze her, I don't think my: "Hey bleep, what the bleep do you bleeping think you're bleeping doing, you bleeping stupid bleeping bleep bleep of a bleep bleep" would have caused her to go: "Oh my god, why am I doing somthing so incredibly stupid?"

End result is she chose to smoke. Now she'll be paying for it the rest of her life (assuming she keeps the baby). More importatly, the Government will probably end up subsidizing a portion of the kids extra expenses for her stupidity.

Did you know that there are absolutely no studies that prove that secondhand smoke actually harms people; that it's all hearsay and conjecture?
Well, there are very few studies that "prove" anything. Most studies just show evidence. That's what studies do. Debate will continue on this one. (It's definitely not "hearsay", though - a very poor choice of words.)

If you listen to the audio in the link I posted, you will hear that the EPA, in it's landmark study, had a pre-determined motive and ignored evidence that did not support their agenda. The agenda, of course, being to prove that secondhand smoke caused deaths. The Federal courts lambasted the study and most scientists have discredited it. In fact, there is no evidence that secondhand smoke causes cancer, death, etc. in anyone.

And because there is no evidence, if someone says "Secondhand smoke causes death, cancer, etc." that is hearsay.
