D&D 5E Mythic Odysseys of Theros

It stacks up poorly against Odyssey of the Dragonlords. Both in terms of subclasses, creatures, and races. If you only had money for one Greek themed product by Dragonlords. You’ll be far more satisfied.
IDK, I have both and I much prefer Theros. But I am a DM and don't really care about race and clss/subclass options. I don't recall, does OftD have anything similar to supernatural gifts and piety? I know it doesn't have anything as wonderful as mythic monsters.

Personally I'd like to know if there is any way for a PC to get an obscenely high Athletics skill ability out of this book somehow?

I agree mythic monsters are a good idea, but they’re more of a concept rather than a complete system. The idea of a monster that undergoes a developmental stage is neat but it only gives a few examples not a whole system.

I think what I like about Odyssey is it gives a living world and the mechanics to back it up. Theros gives the world but it feels ... I don’t know... hollow.

I really don't get Theros nymphs. Thankfully, Ovid isn't here to cry tears over the pages of my books.

Although if Ovid were to appear in the modern world, he would probably gravitate towards the pornography industry instead of the TTRPG industry.
Ya I found that section of the book weird. Although: I'd be lying if I didn't say that I liked the Shadowfell/Underworld Nymph in that section.

Feels pretty complete to me. I was able to make a few myself (with plans to do more) and posted them here: 5e Mythic Updates. There is also a book of them on DMs Guild. Beyond just the mechanics / stat block of the mythic monsters, it is interesting how the flavored them too (both the description of the mythic trait and the encounter text). I feel it is a pretty clear template on how to make mythic monsters. I certainly don't need (or want) anything more.

Well that is where we differ. I don't use published settings so I don't really care if the setting or "world" as you put it feels more robust or hollow. Though to be honest I actually didn't like the lore of the Dragonlords, so that may have clouded my judgement. Regardless, I am looking for things i can use in my game, and MOfT provided more for me:

Mythic Odysseys of Theros:
  • Monsters
  • Mythic Monsters
  • Supernatural Gifts
  • Piety
  • Treasures
  • Artifacts.
Odyssey of the Dragonlords
  • Monsters
  • Epic Paths
  • Treasures

For subclasses, creatures, and races stacking up poorly, do you mean number? power? flavor?
There are a lot more subclasses in Dragonlords. No idea how they compare power wise. Flavor wise, IDK, that isn’t something I get overly invested in. In general, if PC content is what your looking for the better bet would be Dragonlords.

My general read of this thread is Dragonlords has better PC material, Theros has better DM material. And if you just want content to run your own Ancient Greek-esque campaign, Dragonlords might be a better bet.

Overall, I'm happy with Theros. Oath of Heroism is a little meh, but I really like College of Eloquence Bard. The new races, rebalancing the Triton are all pretty solid. I'm really happy with the piety system and the Mythic monsters (and bestiary in general). Supernatural Gifts are okay, but a little thin, I'd have liked a few more options, or more guidance on adding more.
