D&D 5E Mythic Odysseys of Theros

Mythics might just be a bad idea as well.

It's a magic rarity that I thought was a bad idea in 2008 and when they made Jace I quit Magic for good.

I like AD&D big T.

High level monsters in 5E mostly a joke anyway.
The BiG T needs some love. In 4e it was okay in 3e it was mostly good. I feared the 2e one the most... 5e needs a rework... more immunities a gravity effect to keep fly from kiting and the wish requirement being more hard coded is a start... maybe a fling rock option like a giant, and up the damage slightly...

However, the intent is clear. Mytic traits are a DM option. If the DM chooses to use them, they are choosing to override chill touch, or disintegrate or power word kill as the rules are described for mythic traits and mythic encounters. The stat block is not all the rules for the monster.
If your brand new mechanic can be stop Ed by 3 spells with out DM intervention(one a cantrip and all PHB) I think that needs to be adjusted by the company.

I doubt. The basic concept goes back to at least 4e and I have used a version of this concept since at least then. Also, as noted in the description - they are completely optional.

Mythic is a card rarity in Magic, they had legendaries even earlier.

There's is a MTG setting?

I like the concept... I even am useing it in my home brew world just with some tweeks. But I think it could have used a bit more fine tune in

For the record I use it to kick in when bloodied (a hold over mechanic from 4e that is half hp) and grant the creatures a boost or two (some times resist sometimes AC sometimes temp hp some times a whole new trait like regen) and mythic actions... I have non legendary creatures gain legendary traits too like legendary actions and legendary resistance.

I like the Oath of Heroism, myself. I like the idea of a Paladin that is less a servant of a god or ideal, and more a person with a destiny of greatness.

What about the published version of the Oath of Glory gives you that impression?

Personally, I'm glad they decoupled the name from Heroism. All Paladins can be Heroic (yes, even Oath of Conquest and Oathbreaker Paladins). It felt a bit too generic a name. Oath of Glory drives in at the specific idea of a warrior dedicated to their own great exploits and heroic visage. The various colonial conquistadores of Spain, Portugal, and yes, England too (among many other European powers) were dedicated to the 3 Gs, God, Gold, and Glory, as were the Crusaders of late medieval Europe. Monstrous mass-murderers though they were, I point this out because Glory is a separate category from piety. Glory is about one's own outward greatness and appearance.

The term is often linked with western religious traditions because of the idea that the most glorious being is the god worshiped (i.e. Gloria in excelsis deo), but this is a latter and parallel development of the term. To this day the (oft-used in jest) war cry, "For Glory!" doesn't mean "For God!" (that would be "For the Glory of God!") it means, "For Our Own Recognition and Popularity due to our Exploits!"

That is assuming that your players have read the stat block and know the trick. Players that memorize stat blocks in my games very quickly realize that most monsters are not exactly their stat blocks more often then not (hence my comment about the Tarrasque to Zardnaar).

Even more so in the Mythic Monsters’ case: the players not only need to realize that the monster can regenerate, but also correctly time their attack that defeats the Mythic Trait (again, assuming the DM hasn’t applied common sense to the Mythic Trait).

But the spells can't do that by the rules of mythic monsters, as I pointed out. I don't know why you choose to ignore those rules, but you do.
