I had a friend who named all his ships for Limey's and Slimey's really crude names. My favorite was the Sea Slut.

Of course, who can forget the Salty Whore, the ship from the movie Cabin Boy?

Remember that the mythical stereotypical pirate (like those in role-playing games) is a really, really, hideously vulgar person. Ship names should reflect that.

I still have my old book on buccaners from when I was a kid. There are some cool names in there, such as:

Bachelor's Delight
Confiance (sic)
Cygnet
Duchess
Duke
Fancy
Magdalena
Minion
Nonsuch
Pelican
Revenge Satisfaction
Spitfire

Wyvern Wind
Rogue Trader
Thalweg (name of the currents on the banks of a river)
La Chupacabras
Davy Jones
Tahrik Min Qad ("moving through the flame" in Arabic, roughly)
Grinning Bones
The Nechazzar
Djinni's Rose
Soldado (a real pirate ship name)
Mixed Blessing
Answered Prayer (for swift death, hehehe...)
The Six-Armed Seal (ship's mascot is a six-armed seal smoking a cigar with a bottle of gin in one hand, a pistol in a nother, and four ladies fawning over him...think Joe Camel of cigarrette infamy)

Depends on if they want to be feared

Many Pirates may not want to draw attention to their occupation until its either pointless (they're too well known) or they are powerful enough to not care.

Quiet names:

The Ocean Spray, The Ocean Dove, pearl etc....

Bravado Names:

The Orcs Ruin, The Captains Fist, Slavers Doom

Rancid Names

The Widows Cancer, The Busted Bone,

The Eagle's Pride
In the current game that I'm about to join, my character was the first mate of the ship. The Captain is Peter Graymalkin. :)

Devil's Whore
Dragon's Damnation
Dragon's Hoard
The Marauder
Night's Damned Doubloon
The Naughty Blade
The Turtle
The Wasp's Sting
The Bloody Hag

Poor ol' players in my Kingdoms of Kalamar pirate campaign have "Plomplern's Glory" which was generated off of the random ship name generator on the KoK DM screen. Anyways, so Plomplern is the now deceased captain of "Plomplern's Glory" who picked up a nasty virus from one of the vicedens in Vrandol, returned to Dayolen, Mendarn and died. Good ship! :D
