Names - What are the best you've used or heard?

Some of my favorite names have come from my Exalted game...

--Five Metal Maidens--A warstrider of unique construction and power.
--Silken Blade Razor's Edge--A trully badarse Abyssal
--Righteous Fist of the Crimson Pool--Another Abyssal
--Savage Shade of Screaming Vengeance--A ghost. A very angry ghost.
--Prince Darius "Nightchilde" Rathborne--Prince of Dallas in my old VtM game and first character I ever made for Vampire.

And you shoulda heard the groans when I laid the following NPC name down on my D&D group..

--Jennifer Luvewwit

I forgot to post my names. For some time now I have gotten into the habit of making up names for my PCs that have a meaning behind them, usually from Latin root words. So, here are my last 3 PC names:

Aurum Dragonsend, the Seofon Sendant. Name and title means "The seventh descendant sent by gold dragons." A human Sorcerer/Cleric.

Larcen Silvaborn. Name means "thief from the woods". An elven Wizard/Thief. Real name: Larcenium Silvestri.

Valence Penzare. Name means "Strong thinker". A human fighter with an unusually high INT.

I think that the best character name I ever came up with was "Rhojhex of Khedric". He was a wizard, born of a noble house of naval officers, who was disowned after losing his entire command on his first mission.

A few of mine, both PCs and NPCs...

Jessalie McCarran, a redheaded rogue from the Realms;
Kyra Jailuin (JAY-loon), fighter and member of the Mistriders;
Tarron (Tauron) and Merrill Talloak - brothers, rangers, and members of the Mistriders;
Katanya Ilishar, "The Angel of Death", based on Tatyana from Die Hard 3 (or was it 4?) - when I first heard her name, I thought it was Katanya, and it sounded really cool, so...
Jhoren M'Kell - random NPC;
Xaarien Al-Hafel - 6'6" albino blademaster, speaks with a rasping voice (no, not the Kurgan - his voice is like that naturally).

Adventuring groups: The Mistriders, a group of folks who specialized in covert missions; they got their name from the party's gnome illusionist, who would cast ground fog when they rode into town, so they would appear to be riding on a cloud of mist - very cool visual effect.

As for real names... I once played with a woman named Lalanya (I'm not sure if that's how it's spelled, but it sounds about right), and the actress Leilani Sarell, aside from being very pretty, has a really cool name too. :D

The most agonizing I ever did over a name was for my real life daughter's name... Nothing compared to a character name knowing that a real person is most likely going to be stuck with this label for the rest of their life. And then the feeling when that person grows into and BECOMES that name... pretty cool.

Well don't keep us in suspense - what did you name her??

One of my fave was my namesake:

Filthy Ike: Half-Orc Bard/Barbarian. Inspired by the narcoleptic Argentinian from Moulin Rouge, he was a militant from the Principality of Ulek in Greyhawk with a serious chip on his shoulder. The name came from the character generator from the 3.0 players book :)

Dorric Steelfist: My dwarf that drifted from 1.0 to 2.0, Fighter/Cleric from the Realms. Iron-clad, impossible to hit...and cursed beyond reason to never hit in combat!! :mad: Bloody dice...

There're many more, but no time to post all. :)

Names:
- Uriel "Stirling" Sevtéline (Elven Wizard)
- Caglioro Thurgau (Human Monk/Cleric)
- Evan de Bellefeuille (Human Bard)

Slim

I usually almost always play humans, but I thought I came up with a good dwarven name a while back that I like:

Arlek Stonebreaker.

A great elven swordsman in a campaign several years back was Kwellyn Tiamarran. Not my PC, but a good character. There was also a halfling named William Longroots. Both excellent names. I thought my first 3E PC had a good name in Mordon the half-orc barbarian.

My recent human names have been unexceptional: Prentiss (ranger); Argus Addison (mage); Emerson Hightower (stuffy cleric); Liamar (sarcastic rogue); Ramiro the Red (swashbucklery rogue); Daniel (paladin)...

Conall Sigurd - Barbarian warrior I'm playing in a friend's Scarred Lands campaign.

Rann Hergersdottr - Female cleric of Tempus, a Northlander from the Moonshaes.

Thorgrim Ironmaul - Dwarf fighter.

Names I'm happy of (but well, they're -- usually -- meant to be pronounced in French):

D&D Characters:
Alraône (dragonne)
Kersarinon (brass dragon)
Saïlaswanamari (gynosphinx)
Arn Queckschatten (halfling -- this name is German, would sounds more like kvekshatten in English)

Ars Magica Characters:
Hermeline (frail faerie-blooded woman)
Arvancaël (Auram magus, name made from phonic roots of air, vent (wind) and ciel (sky))
Illoco (enigmatic magus, dressed as a buffoon, master of illusion, divination, and remote projection)

Changeling Characters:
Neige (snow-themed sidhe infant, name means snow but sounds cooler)

D&D Places:
Sarlafosse (troglodytic goblin freeport)
Massande (capital of a human country)
Charvade (evil, agressive sentient forest)
Kaztengarken (evil, expansionnist sentient orcish city)

Ars Magica Places:
Loued Enezen (the Grey Isle)
Kerdarlen (covenant on said Grey Isle)
Kerendiaz (town part of the covenant)

the padma name is Indian (Hindu). (then again, so is saag paneer, but that's a spinach dish)

as for names:

Brandin Thure (human ex.paladin, decided to quit after the situations he was put in raised many ethical questions. home villiage / family was slaughtered in what he believes was a preventable incident. becomes the leader of some mercenary group just trying to survive. good with a hand-and-a-half sword, regains his faith after meeting one particular PC Paladin, even does the whole 'attonment' deal)

Ayndore Quintaras Durothil (gold elf 'super boy', and like all super boys, ends up dying before his time. death at the hand of a red dragon (he sacrificed himself to save the people under him, as he was leader of an elite elven 'swat team" like group) forced my PC to assume leadership when he just wasn't ready for it. my pc dealt with it by being insubordinate with the high ups and was transfered far far away, basically my guy ran away from responsibility because he couldn't live up to the memory of his friend 'Quint')

Upshaw halfling family.
-Bonnie (eldest sister, leader of the semi-legal thieving corporation she runs),
-Robbie (fighter/rogue),
-Doddie (spellcaster, eldest brother, was locked in a wizards chest for 12 years, survived on cantrips, learned wizardry by over hearing wizard cast spells, tried to do the same thing by being locked in a cleric's chest for a similar amount of time. that plan didn't work, as that chest ended up in a flooded basement. has spent so much time in chests, trunks and closests that he is emotionally fragile and not suited to personal interaction. when he gets upset and starts crying he runs to his 'happy place' which is where he sleeps/eats whatever, it's a chest on the 2nd floor of the family house. in his hurry to get there it usually topples over on himself preventing him from easily escaping from it when he's done crying),
-Connie (another rogue),
-Connie Upshaw Number Two (twin sister of Connie, her existence was unknown for quite a while, the upshaw parents were wandering rogues who were heavy drinkers. the twins were born in a roadside inn somewhere, and they themselves didn't really know if they had just one baby or two. to quote, "luv, didn't we already have this one?". she was forgotten abandoned, taken in by some rangers. trying hard to intergrate with her family. identical twins both get involved in alot of mistaken identity cases. her 'animal compainion' is her old blanket from when she was a baby.... for the longest time her only friend. needless to say she mixes best with eldest brother Doddie)

Quoaleed Khan the Deceiver (half dragon sorc / psion (telepath) who always obscures his true nature, wears a mask of rare jewels, likes long walks on the beach . . . etc . . . a bad guy the main bad guy mainpulated the party into dealing with because mr.khan stole some things he wanted back, lives on a tiny island in that sea between zakhara and kara-tur)

Jean-Louis D'Marchenay (halfelf paladin who grew up in purely human lands, ladies man, a scandal waiting to happen)

Aleannah Llundlar (elder sister of my main pc, gold elf bladesinger with a pretty crappy life as the bladesinger prc she's in makes her have to keep compromising her feelings by making her choose to serve her queen before even spending time with her family. destined to end up an old maid, old enough to remember back when eliath craulnober was a good guy and kymil Niemissin (sp?) was a student at the academy of arms)
