Nasty one: Darkness + Silence What to do??

How does being blind for many levels mitigate the penalties for blindness? There are people who have been blind all thir lives and they certainly wouldn't be able to move full speed across unfamiliar terrain.

it comes that I could spend many many skill points on listen, since I needed it for absolutely anything, and i gained Blind-fighting as a bonu, since the DM made it to me, without any invitation...

Anyway, sincee the game is all about magic and fantay, with a +11 to Listen made me quite a warrior, even being blind... anyway, the rules do not over it exactly, but it was really really hard to make check to locate any enemy during a battle, not to say that I had to learn a way to get to them... (spent only one action almost all the time...).

You could have a +100 listen bonus and it wouldn't help when you are in a silence spell. No sound to listen too.

Being silenced should probably also negates your Blindfighting feat, but that's a DM call.

Also, locating someone unseen with Listen requires that you beat their move silently roll by 20 (+1 per 10 feet of distance). Granted, in battle, they aren't trying to move silently, so they're probably "taking 5" or so. But as soon as they realize there is a blind badass after them, I bet they'll try to be quieter.

Finally, the noise they make in battle will also be covered by the noise you and your friends make.

I guess I just don't see how you mnaged to consistently track them down.

Oh yes, let me explain it a litlle, thigs really would be quite complicated... I couldn't find anyone INSIDE the silence area, but outside it, all I did was to spend one action to find enemies neraby (touching the darkness around me), so with a +11 to Listen, things get quite good qhen you get your eyes back...

On the other hand, they couldn't realize it since the rest of the group was always making it so that I could know where to go, speaking and so on (those listen checks made just to locate anything in a battle took many many rounds away from me...)

They could not move silently, someone fighting invisible is DC 25 or so to find, since I don't have the bok around here cannot be sure about it, it was that one we used... we just skipped one thing, the penalties to DEX and STR for being blind...

Don't you think I was really a killer WHILE I was blind, but since we got our hands on a regeneration scroll, with eyes AND sharp ears, nothing satys away from my senses...

Unfortunately, what you've described is - at best - a once in a campaign type thing. In your campaign, this isn't going to be a viable tactic as you aren't going to have Daredevil running around in the game. If the PCs go about silencing everything and following it up with darkness, they aren't going to be fighting anything either.

They surely won't have any Daredevil running around a lot, and in fact it comes out that my character made a very unique tatic viable, this thread was open with the idea of how people would handle it, and it came that most would deal with it in two ways:

1. Sit and wait: No battle at all, people sit, silently sneak away, and so on.

2. Dms dirt tricks: Deal with it properly, casting silent dispel, silent fly, silent rope trick and so on.

My worry was that they surely WILL try to reproduce it, wanted ideas to counter it, deal with it or just say: YAH?? How do you do that???

Thank everyone for the help, made it quite clear, even by making it even more unique, a real Daredevil campaign...

:D

Turning back to the base...

I anted this therad to be kept general, that is why I did not put any compaign idea inside, anyway, just answer the following questions, and then you will see what I wanted:

1 - If your players use darkness and some time they ally it with silence, how would you deal with it?

2 - First, how to fight in darkness, excatly?

3 - How to handle the silenced zone?

Well, if the area is silenced and dark, odds are no one is doing any fighting as they can't find their opponents to attack.

If it's just darkness, they can use Listen checks to find their opponents.

If it's silence, REMEMBER that no one in the area can talk. So, your bladesinger player had better not be talking to anyone else in the group to plan tactics. Spellcasters should use silent spells, ones without verbal components, or just leave the area.

Since there is WIS, connected to intuition, would anyone allow a WIS check to locate enemies nearby? It seems that it wouldn't go against thee rules from the way they are made (zen archery, blindsight, and so on).

1 - what would you allow them to do inside darkness? Would they get the penalties for being blind??

2 - edit -- cut out
