River claws once and bites the off-balance Dustin (worst hitting roll 20; best missing roll 11) for 6 points of damage. Dustin also takes an additional 1 point of acid damage from the sticky acid. Dustin has 47 HP remaining.

Breathe some more acid and then go down 5ft out of sight. Next round pop up and attack (or breathe if possible) with cover.
Dustin gets fully hit by the spray (14 Ref save), taking 8 points of acid damage.

When River pops his head up, Dustin rakes him with a claw (rolled 24) for 11 points of damage.
River responds by breathing acid, which Dustin takes fully in the face (15 Ref save), taking 11 points of acid damage, along with the 4 points of acid damage from the previous spray. Dustin has 24 HP remaining. River can breathe next round.

A large skeleton of a three-headed monster trots into the arena to 70n10e. Dixie Chicks goes for the jugular. Time compress? Btw, River didn't expect that damage to pile up so quickly. Yowza! So much for the backup plan of burrowing for a draw.

Dustin shifts to 75N20E and swings hard, connecting all three attacks for a total of 31-10=21 points of damage. Dixie Chicks has 37 HP remaining.
Dixie Chicks bites with two heads and gores with the goat head for a total of 36 points of damage, making the acid damage from River a moot point.
As soon as Dustin saw Dixie Chicks, he should have known that he should have been ready to run.

Oh sure, pick a book I didn't bring today. Good thing I brought my Libris Mortis or I would have been bored silly today.
