NE vs. N (FFA): Very Young Tarterian Dragon vs. Adult Ethereal Dragon

OOC: When grappling, I believe the creatures share the space. They are not partially in one Space or another. It's like Mounts. Do you see/rule it differently? This might play a part later on, so we should get it cleared up.

A large wyvern zombie flies unsteadily into the arena, along the ground, charging to 70n35e (heading east obviously). If he survives the attack of opportunity, he will slam the ooze (POW6). I choose slam over talons not because he knows it will be more effective, but because it's listed first and does more damage.

OOC: But how does a smaller creature share all of the space of the larger creature in a grapple? Are they rolling around, so that they effectively share the same space?

That is why I would have chosen slam.

The minotaur zombie actually had 34 HP remaining, because I messed up its damage reduction. I will finish that combat before we continue with the wyvern zombie.

The zombie, not being grappled, hacks with its greataxe, slicing at POW6 with no effect.

Round 488: POW1 misses. POW2 moves up to 75N75E. POW4 moves to 80N30E. POW5 slams for 10-5=5 and grabs on, squeezing for an additional 7 points of damage. POW6 smacks for 12-5=7. The zombie has 15 HP remaining.

The zombie punches POW5 for 13 points of damage. POW5 has 62 HP remaining.

Round 489: POW6 squeezes the zombie twice for a total of 35-10=25 points of damage. The minotaur zombie is destroyed.

As the wyvern flies toward POW4, POW4 smacks it for 9-5=4 points of damage, then grabs on (26 vs. 25 grapple), squeezing for an additional 6 points of damage. The wyvern slams back for 17 points of damage. POW4 has 20 HP remaining.

Round 490: POW4 squeezes the wyvern once for 19-5=14 points of damage. POW6 smacks it for 7-2=5 points of damage. POW2 moves to 90N60E. POW5 moves to 45N30E. POW1 moves to 55N45E. The wyvern has 65 HP remaining.

The zombie slams POW4 for 11 points of damage. POW4 has 9 HP remaining.

Round 491: POW4 squeezes the wyvern once for 15-5=10 points of damage. POW6 misses. POW2 charges to 90N45E and misses. POW5 charges to 65N30E and misses. POW1 moves to 50N25E. The wyvern has 55 HP remaining.

The wyvern slams POW4 for 19 points of damage. POW4 is teleported out of the arena.

Round 492: POW5 misses. POW6 misses. POW2 misses. POW1 moves to 65N15E.

POW1 is at 65N15E.
POW2 is at 90N45E.
POW5 is at 65N30E, and has 62 HP remaining.
POW6 is at 70N45E.

What does the wyvern zombie do next?

The wyvern went to attack POW6, but I'm not making you redo all that mess. Just please let me know where you placed the wyvern in the update. The wyvern will attack POW6 since he was next in line (or rather first).

OOC: Just like a halfling on a horse. The halfling shares the horse's 10ft Space, all of it. An opponent can attack the halfling anywhere within the Space. You can describe it as rolling around or whatever, but the alternative is to introduce facing. In other words, if you get Snatched by a dragon's teeth, will you be in the front? If a medium creature is in the center of a huge creature, it can't even be attacked, right?

You could ask the same question with mounted combat. It is just an abstraction to make the game run more smoothly. If an area effect encompasses one creature in a grapple, then it must encompass all creatures in the grapple.

OK, I get the grappling stuff now. I wonder if there is any way left for me to mess up grappling.

I figured that the wyvern was trying to attack the closest POW, which was POW4 after the minotaur zombie mess was straightened out.

The wyvern is at 80N30E.

There's plenty of ways to still mess up grappling. Let's hope we don't run into them. No big deal about where the wyvern is. I just didn't know. Anyway, he'll attack the closest target, which is POW5.

The wyvern slams POW5 for 11 points of damage. POW5 has 51 HP remaining.

Round 493: POW5 misses. POW2 hits for 8-5=3 and grabs on, squeezing for an additional 6 points of damage. POW6 slams for 7-5=2. POW1 flows up to 85N15E. The wyvern has 44 HP remaining.

The wyvern slams POW2 for 14 points of damage. POW2 is teleported out of the arena. The wyvern is now at 90N45E.

Round 494: POW6 slams for 7-5=2, and grabs on and squeezes for an additional 12 points of damage. POW5 misses. POW1 charges to 85N35E and slams for 6-5=1. The wyvern has 29 HP remaining.
The wyvern slams POW6 for 14 points of damage. POW6 is teleported out of the arena. The wyvern is at 75N45E.

Round 495: POW1 slams for no damage, but grabs on and squeezes for 10 points of damage. POW5 slams for 7-5=2, and squeezes for an additional 8 points of damage. The wyvern has 9 HP remaining.

The wyvern slams POW1 for 16. POW1 is teleported out of the arena.

Round 496: POW5 squeezes the wyvern for 19-5=14 points of damage. The wyvern is destroyed, but there is only one POW remaining. :)

POW5 is at 65N30E, and has 51 HP remaining.

Next in round 496 for Neutral Evil is a frostfell ghost (Frostburn).

Frosty flies into the arena to 70n25e and touches the ooze. Once it's known the ooze cannot affect Frosty, time compress? If Frosty gets a move action remaining, he'll fly straight up 15ft.

Round 499

POW5 flees the arena in round 499. Neutral is disappointed that POW did not get to use its fun ability. Frosty is still at 70N25E.

A huge worm with dozens of insectoid legs, multifaceted eyes, and a wide, toothy maw scuttles into the arena to 55N90E. The back of its head sports large, winglike fins. The back of the beast starts glowing a cherry red color.

OOC: I agree with the running away, but I believe Gansk said that creatures with Int - would not flee. In this case, it doesn't matter, but in some cases it could require the expenditure of resources.

Frosty flies to 60n30e20z.
