Need Help Building a Fighter/Mage

Like, Warlock/Fighter instead of Sorcerer? Or is there another top BAB-having class that might work better?

The concept I'm going for, after all, is the mystic wandering fighter-type. Someone from the less regal places of the world, that has needed to develop in both sets of abilities to survive on his own. That sort of thing.

A warlock/fighter is nothing like a sorcerer. For a moment there I thought my head had exploded. If you want to multiclass warlock with a melee type, go for rogue and then specialize in rays, dealing sneak attack damage with them.

Sounds like what you want, incidentally, is a wu-jen. The basic flavor is "sword-using sorcerous types from the deep wilds." I don't know if they're any good power-wise in 3.5, though.
