Need help! Creating a spare character: Axe Fighter theme

I'd actually go for the anthropromorphic african elephant over the baleen whale myself (if you can get your DM to ok it). Don't have my books handy, but if I recall, he comes out as ECL 5, is large, and has a pretty heft strength bonus (I want to say it was something like +12 or +14). No character levels yet, but he's already kind of scary. Can't recall if he got 2 or 3 HD though.

Two quick questions:
What kind of stats do you have to work with?
Will the DM allow flaws from Unearthed Arcana too?

Just remembered something (in case you like the Minotaur or other monstrous race idea):

Savage Species set forth rules for doing Monster Classes. As in, you take a monster type and make a class of it with a number of levels = ECL. The PC may not multiclass until all Monster Levels are taken, and Monster Class levels count like PC levels for all purposes, including XP penalties with favored classes. In a sense, you start off as a juvenile and "grow into" your full monster abilities.

The example given WAS the Minotaur, so if you like it, you don't have to do any work!

Furthermore, there are SEVERAL templates in the book, like Reptillian, which could fit your PC concept.

Danny,

Dervish with axes eh? Mmm might consider that as it would make for a fun build as well as combining it with Tempest perhaps.

Regarding Spellwarped, I had considered it but I'd prefer a non-evil PC thank you.

I will however look at other templates in SS and possibly Races of Faerun/Underdark.

Mage,

No stats yet but I imagine a 32 point buy could possibly be in order.
Flaws are allowed. He's generally okay with UA stuff. (The lone exception being Item Familiars)

Spellwarped are USUALLY evil, not always.

OTOH, examine these templates:

Ferals are +1LA, ups HD to d10, gives claw attacks & some special attacks, Darkvision, Fast Healing +4Str, -2Dex, +2Con, and -4Int.

Incarnate Construct is complex, and actually has a -2 LA. You might want to look into it if you want to play something beefy.

Multiheaded Creature is nice, with LA +2-9, +2HD/head. The REAL gem, however, is hidden within it (towards the end) are FURTHER modifications of the template, Lernaean (+2LA), Pyro and Cryo (each +1LA). A 2-headed Lernean Orc would be +6ECL: +2 for the head, +2 for the additional HD, and +2 for Lernean. A 2-headed PyroOrc would be+5ECL: +2 for the head, +2 for the HD, and +1 for the Pyro. Did I mention that Pyro/Cryo gives immunity to the appropriate damage (and corresponding vulnerability to its opposite) type AND a breath weapon?

Danny,

Mmm good point but I think my DM will have a hard time accepting Spellwarped.

Feral is certainly one I'm considering. Feral Orc Half Troll might work in my favor. Not so sure I want a multi-headed one but there is the template in CC3 I might get by with Multi-armed. But adding that to my Feral Orc Half Troll might be a little much.

Also of note from Savage Species is the new PC race, the Half-Ogre.

Ah...and Unearthed Arcana has Bloodline Substitution levels...

Bloodlines aren't something I'd like to try but maybe Orc paragon.

Half Ogre...eh. Not sure I want to go that route unless I add it to the orc in favor of half troll. (Hard to pass up on rending though.)

Half-Ogres are a race, not a template. Oh well...

I'm sure you'll figure out something cool!

Are there any questions as yet unanswered about your PC we could help with?

If you go the two-handed weapon route, Complete Adventurer has a "Long Axe" that is like a Greataxe but you can use it as either a regular weapon or a reach weapon (you set it for the round when you set your power attack total (which must be at least 3 points transfered from BAB to allow the reach weapon option)).

As close to a spiked chain as you will get while still having "Axe" in the name of the weapon. :)
