D&D 5E Nerf to Divine Sense

Or give the target a Charisma Save... if successful immune to being detected for 25 hr.

Nah. No need for houserules. I'd rather see the LG paladin squirm:

Paladin: *Well, he is the mayor and lawful representative of the town, but undead are evil, or at least, I think they are always evil. Shoot, I should have paid more attention back at the temple. I thought that everything was evil that set off my Spidee Sense. But why did he get voted in as mayor. Is the entire town evil? Darn, I wish I had an Int higher than 9. Now the wizard will make jokes about me if I bring this up later.*

"AAATTTAAACCCKKK"!!!

Rest of party: "What the?"

How so? They still have plenty of other iconic abilities. In particular, Smitey McSmiterson.
In my experience, the primary difference between a Fighter and a Paladin is that the Paladin is constantly going around and Detecting Evil on anything and everything. Smiting was something that you could do, sometimes, in combat. Detect Evil was for every non-combat encounter, every investigation, and whenever anyone or anything might possibly be hiding something.

Perfect summation of what annoyed me with the ability. Yeah to no more CSI paladins.

So now they have to think about when to do it instead of just spamming it constantly.

Where's the downside?

I actually liked the idea that Paladins didn't need LoS for Divine Sense
You have a private audience with Kaius III, and pull off Divine Sense, you ping an undead creature. Is it a skeletal minion hiding in a secret compartment? You don't know. Now if it's only LoS, there's no mystery. You know Kaius is undead (unless your companions are hiding something, anyway).
